Sherwood is a small town in Oregon, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem-Keizer-Rochester, OR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was platted in 1887 by A.P. Hill and James Hogg as a resort town for settlers heading west along the newly built Oregon Trail. In 1910, when US Route 97 was routed through the area, the name changed to Sherwood to avoid confusion with nearby Keizer and Rochester. A post office established in 1909 served both towns until it closed in 1967; mail now arrives from Bend, Oregon instead. In 1933, local businessmen formed The American Legion Post No. 137 to support World War II veterans living within reach of their homes; this led to increased development around the post office and shopping center since then. In 1990s, an effort began to improve infrastructure including new roads and sidewalks while also restoring historic buildings such as a Methodist Church which had been lost in fire two years earlier. Today, Sherwood boasts several popular restaurants and cafes as well as three schools - one high school and two middle schools - making it an attractively located community for families with children or adults looking for quality education options close by while enjoying easy access to shopping and dining opportunities elsewhere in Salem or Keizer County.

The town of Sherwood, Oregon is a small community located in the Clearwater County region of Oregon. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Portland metropolitan area since 1997. Sherwood was first established as a mining camp in 1877 by prospectors from Nevada and California. The name derived from the woody hills that surrounded it. In 1907, the post office called it "Oregon City" after then-Governor John K. Polk's statehood proclamation that year. The name changed to "Sherwood" in 1916 when Sherwood became a city limits addition to Portland. In 1937, Sherwood voters approved an ordinance establishing itself as an official school district with its own superintendent and board of education instead of relying onPortland Public Schools. In 1948, Sherwood became part of Salem Township when Salem merged into Portland; however, township status was short-lived because Salem severed its relationship with Portland in 1951 and reverted to independent status again within two years. Sherwood experienced economic recession during the late 1990s due to tight labor markets and high energy prices; however, it regained some prosperity during 2007–2009 fringe benefit tax cuts championed by then-Mayor Sam Adams and later Governor John Kitzhaber . A new library/community center opened in 2009 adjacent to Sherwood High School which has helped revive downtown businesses along with bringing more people into town for shopping purposes .
Sherwood was founded in 1875 by John W. Sherwood and his wife, Emma. The town developed around the lumber industry, which contributed to its economic prosperity over the years. In 1909, Sherwood became a city Limits area and began to experience rapid growth. By 1920, the population had increased to nearly 100 residents and the city continued to grow until it reached its current size of approximately 25,000 residents in 1991.
