Redmond, Oregon is a city located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. As of the 2010 census, its population was 54,824. The city is the seat of Multnomah County and home to many technology companies such as Microsoft and Amazon. Gourmet coffee has been a part of the history of Redmond for over 50 years. The first European settlers in what is now Redmond were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1792. They named their new town "Nieuwpoort" after the spot where Fort Nieuwpoort had been built about a year earlier. In 1846, John Sellers opened his store at Ninth and Alder Streets on land that he had just bought fromthe Klamath River tribe. With this business venture started what would become one of the most successful coffeehouses in Portland – Sellers Coffee House (later renamed The Java Bean). In 1854, Leland Stanford imported two African slaves to work as farm hands in his family's new vineyards near Redding. soon afterwards these slaveowners found themselves with an extra customer for their coffee shop: Stanford himself! He frequented Sellers Coffee House for morning cups of java and donuts before dinner, often stopping by for lunch too. Eventually Stanford became very interested in coffee beans and started buying them himself from farmers around Eugene, Oregon; this process began what would eventually be known as café retailing. By 1870s Redmond had become an important center for agriculture due to its location between Eugene and Portland along Interstate 5 (then called State Route 99). This gave it access to both markets – buyers in Eugene could buy produce from local farmers while people living closer toPortland got their caffeine fix from sold goods at Sellers Coffee House or other cafés like Harry's Cafe on First Avenue NW (now home to QSR International). As commodity prices decreased during World War I, jobs dried up on farms which also coincided with an increase in popularity of gourmet coffee products such as roasts and espresso machines among consumers across America thanks largely to firms like Keurig Green Mountain manufacturer Gottlieb Justus Schweizer & Co., makers of Dunkin' Donuts biscuits fame! During prohibition days all sorts of odd goings-on took place at Sellers Coffee House including fistfights over cups of joe (!), spur-of-the-moment decisions about music choices (mostly rock 'n' roll), sleeping arrangements (usually overnight shifts) because landlords refused to let restaurants close during prohibition – anything goes until Beamish Brewery came through with a truckload/day delivery service that relieved some tension! Today we can still taste Prohibition era nostalgia courtesy of our favorite downtown fixture: Russell's Creamery which offers free samples any time you drop by! Olympia’s last major grocery store closed down operations around 1975 leaving Redmond completely dependent upon car rental services until recently when they started bringing back espresso via mobile app! With so much going on here it’s no wonder why there are more Starbucks than anywhere else outside California...including Seattle!

Redmond, Oregon is the birthplace of gourmet coffee in the Northwest United States. The first commercial coffee roaster in town was founded by Harry Smith in 1911. In 1915, Fred Leroy opened the first bakery in Redmond and began to sell coffee as a commodity. In 1924, Eugene Sheehan opened the first restaurant in Redmond and started selling his own roasted beans. This gave birth to what is now known as Sheehan's Coffee & Tea Company. In 1949, Gordon Biersch began producing their own roast-specific coffee beans at their company headquarters on NE First Avenue in Bellevue. This signaled an important shift for gourmet coffee within the region; before this point, most of the beans produced locally were generic blends or imitation Dutch Roasters products. Biersch's purchase of Wofford Coffee helped solidify their foothold within the local community and set them up for years to come. In 1986, Starbucks purchased Sheehan's Coffee & Tea Company for $30 million USD. At this point things changed significantly for gourmet coffee within Redmond; Starbucks became one of only a few major players in the industry and spearheaded a shift towards more high quality gear than ever before being available at retail outlets across town (the rest of Washington State followed suit soon afterwards). Since then, Starbucks has continued to invest heavily into expanding their operations throughout town while simultaneously creating new opportunities for local businesses to compete against them directly (such as developing robust grocery stores).

Today, Redmond continues to be a vibrant community with opportunities for retirees, students, professionals including scientists and engineers who work at universities in nearby Salem or Eugene (a half-hour away), families with children who commute to jobs in Salem or Eugene each day (or take public transportation) or anyone looking for easy access to quality healthcare options close by including Sacred Heart Medical Center which is less than two miles from downtown Redmond along Interstates 585/385), University Village Shopping center across from Interstate 585 near where Microsoft once created their first campus (now part of Amazon’s fulfillment center), numerous restaurants including several national chains ( Subway sandwich stores are now open throughout downtown Redmond ), several parks including Betty Ford Lake State Recreation Area east of downtown Redmond next to Interstate 585 where you can walk Nonstop TRAILSIDE PARKING! There has been coffee brewing for as long as there have been humans. Coffee beans were ground and roasted in ancient civilizations such as Babylon, Rome, Greece and Ethiopia. The first European coffee houses opened in the 18th century; by the end of the century, coffee was being traded all over the world. The Dutch East India Company was one of the first companies to sell coffee in Europe. They started trading with Java and Sumatra in 1624 and began exporting coffee to Europe. In 1685, a group of Dutch traders founded a company in Brazil called Companhia do Brazil that became one of the largest coffee importers in history. The Dutch also founded two other large coffee companies- Hollandia Nederlanden (now Javan Trawa) and Sulawesi Indonesia Bintang (now PT Kementerian Binausahaan Indonesia). By 1795, when British navigation improved, tea had become more popular than coffee among Europeans so English traders set up plantations to grow tea in Java and Sumatra while continuing to trade with Spain and Portugal for coffee. In 1796, Nicholas-Jacques Conte patented a process for making espresso which allowed for both single use ground beans and whole bean espresso machines. This innovation led to greater popularity of espresso among professional brewers who could now produce large quantities at once or ship it directly to customers. Coffee became an important commodity within European economies during this time period due to its high value compared to other goods such as wine or tobacco. From 1800 until 1830s demand for Italian green tea grew significantly while European demand for Arabica decreased significantly because of rising prices associated with industrialization throughout much of Asia including Japan where Arabic is the dominant language

Redmond's thriving economy allowed for construction of such landmarks as City Hall (1914), Pioneer Square (1926), and the Oregon State Capitol Building (1968). The city also became known for its large number of high-tech jobs during the late 1990s and 2000s when Microsoft Corporation built its corporate campus there. However, recent economic recession has made Redmond one of Oregon's poorest cities according to the 2010 US Census figures.
