The couple enjoyed creating unique and delicious coffee drinks for their customers, which led to the development of Pendleton Coffee Company. The history of Pendleton, Oregon begins with the arrival of pioneers in 1847. The town site was platted in 1853, and by 1865 it had a population of 506. The first store there was built in 1855, and the first post office was established in 1865. By 1880, Pendleton had a population of 1,500. A school was opened in 1881, and by 1903 it had a school board. In 1907 the town became an incorporated municipality. In 1940 Pendleton became a stop on the Oregon Trail when the railroad moved through its community. After World War II, industry began to grow in Pendleton; however, during the 1970s and 1980s economic decline led to joblessness and poverty among many residents. In recent years efforts have been made to revive Pendleton as an agricultural center; however, these efforts have not gone very far because of overpopulation and lack of resources. There are now only a few hundred people living in Pendleton while more than 2,000 people lived here before 2000. Pendleton is located at (44.866667,-122.904111). It occupies most of what is now downtown Portland but has grown rapidly around its core business districts: main streets NE-SW are State Street NW and Harrison Street SE.-These two main thoroughfares run perpendicular to each other for much of their length forming sorta-triangle shape which gets broken up along Harrison into smaller peripheral streets that wind around central square/block type facilities (the high school as well as several larger businesses). Other neighborhoods developed generally east or west from this one core business district including Northwestside Mall (now Macy’s), Alberta Place SE., Pioneer Square SW., Old Town SW., Grant Park NE., Beaverton Hills NW., Mount Hood National Forest near Hood River Junction

In the 1830s, a Dutchman named Hendrik Breda started manufacturing small batches of espresso and Milo black coffee. By 1840, this company had relocated its production to Holland. In 1851, a man by the name of Cornelius Vliett produced the world's first smallbatch espresso machine at his home in Utrecht, Netherlands. In 1857, an Italian named Antonio Negri started producing small batch espresso for Giorgio Cesare Pavoni's La Caffetteria restaurant in Rome. This event is considered the beginning of modern Italian espresso culture. From 1870-1971, Luigi Beccaria developed a method for crushing and milling cafestrian beans that yielded larger and more consistent grades of coffee than ever before. In 1971, two Danish brothers founded their own smallbatch coffee company called Noma Coffee which became one of the most successful commercial coffeeshops in history. By 1870, Pendleton had a population of over 500 people and was the largest town in Oregon. In 1872, a railroad line was built through Pendleton and it began to grow even more quickly. By 1880, Pendleton had become an important transportation hub for the region. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Pendleton experienced some significant growth and development. A large cotton gin was built in 1901; this helped to drive local textile production until World War I when cotton prices collapsed. However, during these years there were also several incidents that caused tension between locals and non-local residents. For example, on July 4th 1904, a group of local meninitos attackeda group of Non-Hispanic white men who were out for a walk near the city limits. This attack is still commemorated by local residents as one of their most notorious instances of racial violence against whites. In 1907, Mayor George Norris organized a referendum to decide whether or not to annex what is now known as Portland into Pendleton Municipality (then called Clackamas Townships). The vote resulted in majority yesment with only 2 ballots being tallied which means that there may have been other factors at play including economic hardship that contributed to the annexation decision - though this has never been confirmed officially. After annexingPortland into Pendleton Municipality in 1907, many new businesses started up around town including hardware stores (now part of Northwest Oregon Discount Stores), groceries (later JBL Grocery), auto services (later Dave's Car Wash), laundries (later Mrs.'s Cleaners), schools (now Cascade Christian School District) and even a movie theater!
