Oregon City, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Clackamas County. The population was 24,821 at the 2010 census,[1] increasing to 31,569 in 2016.[2] It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first coffee farm in Oregon City was established by James Waddell in 1852. Coffee production began to increase around 1880 when John Atherton purchased a share of the farm from Waddell. By 1890, coffee had become an important export commodity for Oregon City and other nearby towns. In 1902, Waddell's son-in-law Harry McMillan started another farm east of town and called it McMillan & Company. They produced over $100,000 worth of beans per year by 1916. In 1923, Donny & Shirley Laughlin opened their first roastery/cafeteria near town square. Their coffees were popular with locals and tourists alike and soon became known as "the best coffee in town." In 1951, they sold their business to The Powers Brothers who operated it until 1977 when it went bankrupt again and was bought by Edward Purdy who reopened it as Purdy's Coffee Shop in 1980 before selling it to David Heinemann who ran it until 1997 when he closed it down after failing to achieve profitability; however he left his mark on the business through his ownership which included giving away free samples throughout its history (a tradition that continues today). In 2000, Clackamas County voted unanimously to annex Oregon City into its greater community making it an official city within that jurisdiction However this did not mean that commercial or industrial development stopped occurring within the limits ofClackamas County; much actually occurred within what are now considered inner-city neighborhoods located along East Burnside Avenue north of downtown Oregon City proper - areas once comprising much higher densities than what exists today within those boundaries due largely to wave immigration following World War II which brought countless new people into central and eastern Clackamas County - many among them professional engineers and scientists whose hard work made possible some truly innovative technological advances during those years including numerous contributions towards developing early computer systems inside and outside OSU’s main campus such as pioneering work on electronic mail while also founding one of several early local ISPs - later acquired by Amazon Web Services - along with many more significantChanges which have shaped both our community’s character since then as well as how we live our lives day-to-day[3] .

Oregon City also has a diverse economy based largely on agriculture with some light industry activity around tourist services such as restaurants and lodging; however most businesses have closed down or relocated since 2000 when global economic conditions changed so drastically that mining stopped being profitable in Clackamas County alone. The development of artisan coffee became increasingly popular throughout Europe during the late 19th century as more and more people began to appreciate its unique flavor profile and quality. By World War I, many large companies had stopped selling roasted beans because OFA (Organic Farming Act) regulations prohibited them from doing so. However, small businesses continued to sell roasted beans until about 1945 when Jura decided to switch to French roast methodology which yielded a far superior cup of Coffee than any before it
