The Ontario Airforce Association (OAFA) was founded in 1922 by a group of aviation enthusiasts who were interested in the development of an air force. The OAFA grew to become one of Canada's largest air forces, with over 100,000 members. In 1945, the Ontario Air Force became part of the Canadian Forces and was renamed the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1996, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) amalgamated with the United States Air Force (USAF) to form what is now known as the United States Air Force - Canada. The OAFA continues to be headquartered in Toronto and has two wings located in Ottawa and Edmonton. In 1922, a group of aviation enthusiasts who were interested in the development of an air force pooled their resources to form the Ontario Aeronautics Association (OAA). With a focus on developing civil aviation, this organization helped spawn other countries' air forces during World War II. After hostilities ended, OAFA continued its work towards developing an military-grade aircraft system, which would become known as the "Ontario Bomber". By 1942, it had developed designs for three types: The "Heavy Bomber", designed for strategic bombing; The "Light Bomber", designed for bomber use against targets such as transportation hubs and warships; And The "Stratocruiser" – an amphibious bomber that could fly into enemy ports and bomb them from land. However, these plans never took off due to economic limitations and design problems with each model. However, after World War II ended there was renewed interest within Canada in Defence Aviation – specifically fighter planes. This new interest led tothe creationoftheOntarioAirForce(OAAF). On 1 January 1946 local authorities amalgamated all six regional defence organizations under one umbrella: THE CANADIAN AIR FORCE ACT 1947 followed suit on 15 February 1946 with establishment of HQ FEAF at Downsview Airport near Toronto – becoming operational on 1 October 1946 with fifty-four single-seat jets called CF-100s from Canadair Inc., twenty whole-plane trainers from De Havilland Canada Ltd., twelve de Havilland Vampire fighters from RCAF Services Canada Ltd., eight Beechcraft Super King Coopers training jets belonging to No 6 OTU at Trenton Airport near Hamilton and four Douglas DC-3C Flying Fortresses flown by First Nations students at North Battleford School – service began providing aerial reconnaissance over central eastern Ontario . HQ FEAF also purchased ten Lockheed P-38 Lightning jet aircraft from United Aircraft Industries Incorporated (#84627), these being delivered between December 1946 and May 1947[1] These new jetpilots quickly proved themselves useful assets during various peacekeeping operations including SAR raids throughout western Quebec; support flights for UNAMIR patrols above Ethiopian Highlands; flying search & rescue missions along Nova Scotia's coast; enforcing restrictions on trade through Suez Canal; conducting overflights into Norwegian airspace duringOperation Neptune's Spear; overall photographic support for ground troops during Operation Overlord . In Ontario, the Air Force gift history begins with World War I. In 1916, Canada entered World War I and the Air Corps was established to provide air support for the war effort. The Corps was renamed the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1922. It served as a branch of the armed forces until its dissolution in 1956. In Oregon, during World War II, the Air Force gift history began with fighter planes being sent to Japan as part ofOperation Crossroads. The RAF's Wellington bombers were also used in this operation. Fighter Squadron 141 was activated at McClellan Army Base on December 7th, 1942 and began operations against Japanese targets inside and outside of Japan. On January 15th 1943 Squadron 141 converted to P-51 Mustangs and became operational against Japanese aircraft from bases in California and Nevada. Oregon's border with California is a long and rugged one, with mountains on either side. The state was first populated by Native Americans, and the area now known as Oregon was part of Mexico for many years before becoming a U.S. territory in 1846. In the early 1800s, gold was found in what is now Oregon, and settlers began moving into the area from California. By 1870, there were over 2,000 people living in Oregon proper. The region around Portland became heavily populated during this time, with factories and businesses lining both sides of the river that separates Oregon from Washington. In 1898, when America acquired most of Central America through the Treaty of Paris following World War I, it decided to give portions of its new Mexican possessions to each country's respective citizens – including Northwestern California – as part of that process. This included parts of what are today Oregon and Nevada; these regions were under American control until 1912 when they were given to Mexico again as part of the same treaty-making process. By 1920, however, American attitudes had changed significantly towards Mexican nationals residing in their territories (particularly those working in agriculture), which led to increased tension between the two nations over various issues including immigration and education reform. As a result of this tension, Arizona offered citizenship to all Mexicans living within its borders in 1924 while still remaining an American state; this event is also sometimes cited as being responsible for sparking theMexican Revolution that followed soon thereafter. Mexican immigrants continued to flock to Oregon throughout much of this period due to its relatively open economy and lack of restrictions on their ability to work or live among its citizens; however, by 1930 only about 8 percentofthe populationofOregon resided within Mexican origin households alone*. Spain also had a presence in the region with missions established at Astoria and other locations. The Spanish Empire collapsed in 1821, following its defeat by Napoleon Bonaparte. A series of Western United States presidents, including Ulysses S. Grant, Colorado Territory was created on July 4, 1846 when California became a U.S. state. On January 3, 1889, Oregon became a state of the United States as part of the westward expansion of the American continent.
