Milwaukie is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 452 at the 2010 census. It is home to the University of Oregon and Milwaukie Park. The history of Milwaukie goes back to 1846 when John McLoughlin founded the town on land that he had purchased from the Klamath tribe for $1,500. In 1868, Don Carlos Smith established a mill with power generated by an underground pipeline running through the town. In 1917, Multnomah County was organized and Milwaukie became its first county seat. The discovery of oil in 1947 changed many aspects of life in Multnomah County and led to an influx of people and businesses into Milwaukie. The Commercial Street Bridge was built in 1957 as part of a road project that widened Interstate 5 between Portland and Salem. On November 2, 2007, voters passed Measure 97 which created the City of Milwaukie as a consolidated municipality with all municipal services provided by Multnomah County government including police, fire suppression/response services, water supply/maintenance services and public works ( trash collection, street maintenance). On December 1st 2007 City Council met to pass Ordinance No.(2007-057) amending zoning regulations for development within theCity limits which will allow for up to 96 one-story buildings setback from center line without any special permit or review required other than regular building permits granted by Multnomah County permitting authority; this ordinance will also establish new zoning districts specific to development withinCity limits subject only to meeting certain requirements set forth hereinbelow: Milwaukie's economic vitality has come about through its location adjacent Interstate 5 and major highways administered by both state agencies (Oregon Department of Transportation - I-5 interchange), private companies (Pacific Gas & Electric Company - Northshore Pipeline easement), professional athletes who use facilities located just east off I-5 near airport (Portland Trail Blazers basketball games), military retirees stationed at nearby Fort Lewis Army Basecamp KOIN 6 News Now has been broadcasting live from inside city hall since 1978

Milwaukie was founded in 1876 as a small town on the banks of the Willamette River. The town grew rapidly, reaching its peak in the late 1800s and early 1900s as it became known for its manufacturing and agricultural industries. In recent years, Milwaukie has slowly begun to decline, though its legacy remains important to Oregonians and visitors alike. The origins of Milwaukie date back to 1876 when Captain George Vancouver arrived in Portland with a group of American fur traders. When he first saw the potential for trade along the Willamette River, he decided to establish a small trading post near what is now Milwaukie. The post was quickly established and named after Captain Vancouver's hometown of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. In 1879, two local businessmen - John Hargrave and James Sutherlin - bought the trading post from Captain Vancouver and began expanding it into what would become Milwaukie. By 1889, Milwaukie had reached its peak as an agricultural center with production of wheat, corn, cotton, bacon, eggs and other farm items rivaling those found in larger cities such as Portland or Seattle. However, during World War I (1914-18), Milwaukee's industrial base came under intense pressure due to federal funding for military production efforts. This environment led to decreases in business activity throughout the 1920s and 1930s; however, by 1940 there remained a few successful businesses in operation despite economic difficulties overall. During World War II (1939-45), milk production increased dramatically thanks to new pasteurization techniques developed at Oregon State University; this led to an increase in demand for cheese from various locations across America. Additionally, wartime spending caused some millers throughout Northwest Territory to expand their operations into other sectors such as papermaking and garment manufacturing; however all these ventures ultimately failed due to economic sanctions levied against Japan by America following the surrender of Japan on September 2nd 1945.
