The city's first harbor was designed to accommodate the growth and the construction of a new port led to the importation of large quantities of seafood. This led to the birth of what is now known as The Lobster Pound, which served as an importer and distributor for local fishermen. In response to this growing demand, several businesses began selling lobster products. One such business was The Lobster Pound, which began selling lobster dishes from a small storefront on First Street in 1911. In 1924, The Lobster Pound moved its business premises to what is now known as Cooperage #2 on Southeast Morrison Street in Mcminnville. That year, it became one of the first businesses in town to offer canned goods and groceries online through a website called 'The Lobster Pound'. It also began selling ice cream that year! Over time, The Lobster Pound has become one of Mcminnville's most iconic and well-known businesses; it remains in operation today as Cooperage #2 Seafood & Grille LLC.
Mcminnville is a small town in Oregon that lies on the banks of the Willamette River. The town was founded in 1872 by white settlers who named it for Andrew McNaught, an early settler. The population of Mcminnville peaked at around 1000 in 1907 and has gradually declined since then. However, it still remains a small community with close-knit relationships among its residents. The name Mcminnville comes from the French word "mcmahonie" which means "small stream." The river was named after General John McLoughlin, commander of United States forces during the Oregon Trail era. In 1872, General McLoughlin ordered some men to construct a bridge over the river so that wagon trains could cross. When construction began, locals called the bridge "McMahon's Bridge". Today, Mcminnville is home to a few businesses and homes that remain unchanged from when it first appeared on maps more than 100 years ago. Some of the most important landmarks in Mcminnville include McNaught Chapel (named for Andrew McNaught), McNaught House (built c1907), and McClure Store (founded 1902). These buildings were all part of what is now known as Old Town Mcminnville. Although its economy is largely based on agriculture, there are also a few local businesses that offer services such as plumbing and landscaping. As one of Oregon's smallest communities,Mcminnville enjoys a high degree of autonomy compared to other towns in the state. From here, Americans donated various items such as food cans, radios (including transistor radios), fishingtackle, books on Japanese culture, postcards from Japan (and other countries), dolls from China (or Korea), toiletries such as soap bars and shampoo products (from Japan only), cigarettes (U .S., Japanese brands only), candy bars (!-ish) for children's meals aboard shipmates' submarines when ashore at Ulithi Atoll!), medicines like penicillin tablets*, cholera vaccine tablets*, etc., among other things! By 1905, Mcminnville had a population of 1,500 people and boasted a school, hotel, grocery store, theater, Presbyterian church and several residences. However, World War I interrupted development in Mcminnville; the war caused a decline in population that lasted until 1926 when it reached 2,500 people. During World War II (1939-1945), many factories were constructed in Mcminnville; however, most of these closed during or after the war due to economic conditions. With its declining population and diminishing economic opportunities during the late 20th century (a time when Oregon saw significant growth), Mcminnville experienced some decline until it regained some of its former stature as an idyllic small community within commuting distance of Portland through annexation by Portland in 1998
The first people to live in Mcminnville were the Klondike Gold Rush miners. The community was founded in 1885 by John A. McConnell and his wife, Fannie E. McConnell. They named their settlement after a mountain in Scotland that they had seen while prospecting for gold. The McConnells lived in the town until 1907 when they moved to Sisters, Oregon.
