In 1945, the Oregon Air National Guard's 5th Bomb Wing was activated and assigned to the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). The wing consisted of four B-17 Flying Fortress bombers, which were arrival training units at RAF Fairford Airport, England. In 1946, the wing moved to RAF Wickenham in southern England and began its first mission: delivering supplies to NATO forces fighting in the European Theatre of Operations. The wing continued its airstrikes against targets in Europe until 1951 when it moved to bases in Japan as part of United States Forces Japan (USFJ). In 1955, the 5th Bomb Wingactivated once again and was reassigned to 8th Bomb Squadron at Selfridge Army Air Field, Michigan. The squadron provided bombardment support for exercises along the East Coast of North America before being disbanded in 1957. In 1959, an expansion project was initiated at RAF Mcminnville which would result in two new B-29 Superfortresses being acquired: one from Boeing Aircraft Company and delivered on May 15th 1960; and another from Republic Aviation Corporation on July 1st 1961. The planes were numbered 508-5995A/B. These planes served with 8th Bomb Squadron until 1964 when they were replaced by Boeing 727 jetliners serving with 9th Bomb Squadron from 1966 through 1974.
Mcminnville was founded in 1875 by the Dalles and Nez Perce Indians. After years of cultivation, wheat production began to increase in the mid-19th century, and a store and post office were built in 1885. The town became an important transportation center for the area due to its location on the Oregon Trail. In 1923, Mcminnville was renamed after George Washington “Gus” McNary, who helped promote farmers markets in Oregon. The town experienced growth during World War II as residents mobilized to help with war production. However, following the war,Mcminnville declined as businesses closed and poverty increased. In the early 21st century, economic development has resumed with new businesses opening up and efforts made to attract tourism.

Mcminnville, Oregon is a small town located in the Snake River Valley of eastern Oregon. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Deschutes County seat. The first European settlers in what is now Mcminnville were three brothers named John, David and Angus who arrived in 1846 from New Zealand. They started a small farm on the banks of the Snake River and built a cabin near present-day Enterprise. In 1847, they married Susannah Forrest and moved to their original location where they operated a farm until 1850 when they sold it to George Whetstone and his wife Martha. From there, the Whetstones added another farm until 1865 when they bought an existing cabin on Mount Bachelor Road for $800. The new home was called "The Prairie." In 1889, John Atherton purchased land east of Mcminnville from Elisha Perkins for $2,000 and began construction on what would become Atherton Hall which eventually became one of Oregon's most notable landmarks. The hall was completed in 1893 and served as the county courthouse until 1907 when it was replaced by the present-day courthouse building which was dedicated on October 10, 1913 by Governor Asahel Grant Hastings. At that time it became one of only two functioning jails in Oregon (the other being Springfield). In 1916 local banker turned rancher Lew Wallace bought land within sight of Atherton Hall for $4,000 which he used to expand his livestock operation into what is now known as Wallace Ranching Company No. 5 ranching operations began around 1916 with cattle drives out into adjacent counties making Goodyear their primary market center for meat products statewide despite this region having no natural resources other than timberland available for grazing purposes alone In 1924 local schoolteacher Maudie Hansen founded Gresham School District No 6 which included Mcminnville with its students attending Gresham High School before moving to McCallum Elementary/Middle School (renamed Bruce Middle/High School after Bruce Ladd) in 1951 prior to becoming Mrs. Hansen's final student at Gresham before her death in 1984
The community of Mcminnville was founded in 1864 by John A. McIntyre and his wife, Julia. The first school in the community was built in 1866, and the first post office was opened in 1870. In 1899, the town had a population of just over 100 people. By 1937, the population had grown to 1,000 people and the town became incorporated as a city on December 15, 1937.
