Lebanon was founded by refugees from Mount Lebanon, a volcano in Lebanon that destroyed much of the city in 1875. The original settlers were Methodist missionaries who erected a church on the site of what is now the Taylor Elementary School building in 1887. A post office called Lebanon was established in 1888, and grew rapidly until it closed its doors in 1916 due to lack of mail flow. The first residents were farmers or men working on land owned by local families. By 1920, there were over 100 people living hereabouts, most of them employed as farmhands or miners during the region's dark days following World War I. Manufacturing started to grow after World War II as demand for mechanical parts increased; however, this growth stopped when international oil prices plummeted and many businesses folded during the recession that followed Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990. The population has slowly grown since 2000 as new housing developments are built: from 582 people at the 2000 census to 859 at the 2010 census; however, official estimates show that Lebanese Americans may number up to 10% more than this because they do not typically report their ethnicity on tax forms or other public records

Lebanon, Oregon is a small town in Curry County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,926 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Lebanon was founded in 1892 by James W. Lyon and his wife Belle Boyd Lyon as a log cabin community on the banks of the Willamette River near present-day Salem. The community grew to about 100 people before it disbanded in 1906 due to economic reasons. In 1912, Lebanese immigrants who had arrived in the United States from Lebanon began working on a ranch near Butte Pass in southeastern Oregon. In 1916 they organized what became known as the Butte Creek band of Indians and built their own social and cultural center in Lebanon called "The Great House". They also developed a flour mill, which produced food for local farmers and sold products such as bread and butter to grocery stores throughout Hood River Valley until it closed its doors in 1949. Belle Boyd Lyon died in 1944 and James Lyon passed away in 1951; both are buried at nearby Arlington Cemetery. The Beirut Resort & Casino opened up shop here circa 1961-1964 but closed down within 6 months after losing most of its money due to overspending by developers lobbyists backed by then-Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber (D).
