The United States Army has been deployed multiple times in the Lake Oswego area. The first deployment was in 1862, when Oregon became a U.S. state and the 1st Oregon Volunteer Infantry Regiment was raised to fight for the Union against Confederate forces. After the Civil War ended, the army kept stationed in Oregon until 1898, when it moved its main headquarters to Fort George Wright in Seattle, Washington. The 1st Infantry Regiment re-raised and served from 1903-1905 as part of the 8th Infantry Division during World War I before being disbanded. In 1935, an additional regiment was raised as part of National Defense Reserve Program called "The Oregon Airmen" and served until 1945; however, it never mobilized and only saw action at Fort Lewis in WA during World War II. After World War II, there were no deployments by the army for many years due to budget cuts; however, starting in 1990 an effort began to send units back overseas on foreign deployments called Operation Desert Storm which led to two more regiments being sent to Iraq (the 15th Airborne Division and 2nd Battalion Texas Rangers) and Afghanistan (the 4th Brigade Combat Team Alpha Company Hawaii). Since then there have been deployments every year except one where there has not been a military presence at all due to budget cuts or natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina or Superstorm Sandy. In 2013 an extra battalion was activated within the 10th Mountain Division which is based out of Fort Drum upstate New York; this battalion is known as "Task Force Westwind". This activation marked a new era for Army deployments as Task Forces are typically composed of three battalions with infantry units acting as support elements while other units provide air support or artillery fire support depending on what is needed at any given time. These task forces are usually commanded by Generals who are also responsible for their subordinate commands which gives them direct control over their unit’s mission while they are deployed overseas; this system allows commanders greater flexibility while Overseas Expeditionary Operations (OEOs) continue without having to worry about previous appropriations decisions that may have impacted their unit’s ability to deploy successfully/.

Lake Oswego, Oregon is a city in Douglas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 30,844 as of the 2010 Census. It is the seat of Douglas County. The city was formed on December 1, 1902 from the merger of two smaller towns—Hillsboro and La Grande. It lies at the confluence of the Willamette and Umpqua Rivers. Oregon Route 99 passes through town and leads north to Vancouver and south to Portland; US 97 leads east-west through town. The Umpqua River forms most of its eastern border. Lake Oswego contains both freshwater (the Willamette) and saltwater (Umpqua) bodies large enough for swimming, boating, fishing, and sailing. The water's surface is 8 miles wide at its widest point but it widens gradually to 12 miles at its deepest point because it has been diverted by a series of dams built between 1891 and 1915 to provide power for mills in nearby Bend and Hillsboro. Olympic National Park is located adjacent to town on the east side of the Umpqua River.

Lake Oswego is a small, right-of-way lake in the northeastern Oregon town of Lake Oswego. The water level drops precipitously over a period of months, resulting in the creation of a lengthy and narrow gorge. The name "Oswego" means "water that falls from the sky." The first Europeans to visit what is now Oregon were fur traders sailing up the Columbia River. They noticed an odd feature on the side of Mount Hood: There was not one but several very large rivers running down its slopes, but there was no water flowing down to them from anywhere! They named this place Columbia Valley because they thought it must be where the river source could be found. It wasn't until 1825 that Captain George Vancouver discovered Lake Oswego when he sailed his ship through its channel on his way back upriver from his explorations of the Willamette River system. He named it after King George III's brother, James Cook, who had discovered Australia some years earlier. This was only one of many geographical decisions made by Vancouver during his long career as captain of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror –two ships which explored most of north America and parts of Asia during those early 19th century days before air travel made such exploration much more possible. One thing that puzzled Vancouver was why there seemed to be so few rapids on the course between Seattle and Portland (then just villages). So he set out to explore this mystery himself! On July 16, 1792, he anchored off present day downtown Portland and began hiking downstream along what would become known as Discovery Boulevard today. At first sight he saw nothing unusual; however, as he continued walking he came across two clear channels leading into Puget Sound from Olympia Bay at Tuwimokki Point beyond which lay open ocean! This sudden find piquedCaptain Vancouver's interest so much that he decided to stay for breakfast at Umpqua House near present day Pioneer Courthouse Square before continuing upstream for another three miles…or so we have been told! After all these years we still don’t know exactly how or where Captain Vancouver located Puget Sound! In reality he likely followed an abandoned whitewaitiwan Indian trail that led him right past what is now CenturyLink Field
Oregon became a state on January 3, 1859, and the Oswego River was its first official border. The town of Oswego was founded in 1848 by General George Armstrong Custer and his troops during their explorations of the Oregon Country. The town's name is derived from an Indian word meaning "beautiful place."
