Tactical coffee began in La Grande, Oregon in the early 1800s. In 1853, a group of farmers found and started brewing coffee on their farmstead. The first crop was grown using small-scale methods and then shipped toPortland for processing. By 1907, coffee beans had reached La Grande from various other parts of the country. The town's growth led to an increase in traffic on Main Street and an increased demand for goods and services available from businesses in town. With more people coming into town, there was also an increased need for space to sell food and beverage products. In 1925, the La Grande Coffee Company was founded by brothers Elmer and Harry Whitehead. The company grew rapidly until World War II when it merged with two other firms to form the Oregon Coffee Corporation (OCC). During World War II, OCC produced coffee beans for military troops stationed overseas. Following the war, OCC resumed itsrowth trajectory but stopped production after 1966 due to a lack of new customers and resources

La Grande is a small town in Oregon, located on the Snake River. The community was founded by Latter-day Saints in 1876. La Grande had a population of about 350 in 1940. The post office at La Grande opened in 1875 and closed in 1945. It was reopened in 1954 and has been open continuously since that time. The community has Armenian, Japanese American, Multiracial, and Anglo-Saxon communities. There are also several hundred Native Americans living within the borders of La Grande. The first settlers to arrive in what is now La Grande were Latter-day Saints who traveled from Illinois overland through Wyoming Territory on November 9, 1871, when Brigham Young's company arrived at Fort Bridger for the winter. Upon their arrival they built a log cabin near present day Central Avenue and Main Street. They named their new settlement "La Grande" after President Joseph Smith's father, Moroni (also known as Mosiah) Greenleaf's home town of Great Salt Lake City. The first postmaster at La Grande was Wm Atherton with the start of mail service on April 22, 1875; he served until his retirement on October 1, 1944. The early residents were largely Anglo-Saxon Mormon immigrants who soon found themselves integrated into local society as well as competing with local Native American groups for resources such as land and access to water supplies - something which would be repeated throughout much of Northwest United States history due to imperial domination by European powers during the 19th century
