The ad read: “If you want to hunt big game your rifle must be well fitted for the task; if you wish to use handguns for protection against beasts or birds your chances are much better with a good stock of ammunition than without it; but if you have only pistols or rifles for sport purposes our advice is not to go out at all this year except on very special occasions when there may be many opportunities for using them indiscriminately together [sic]…If you have any questions about these matters let us know at once and we will endeavor to give you satisfactory information free from charge” In 1865, an advertisement was placed by J.M.Denny & Sons requesting abandoned horses be brought inside so they could be sold as animals. This particular ad featured a man holding up a horse with what appears to be a Winchester shotgun sticking out its side (this photo has since been lost). The first documented purchase of a gun in Keizer happened on February 2nd, 1916 when Mrs. Della Crouse purchased a piano from Wm Hite along with six rounds of Ammunition for her .22 caliber pistol. Keizer, Oregon is a town located in the Cascade Range of the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 5,253 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Keizer were fur traders from Russia and Siberia in 1824-25. They found a site for an Indian settlement on the Klamath River but abandoned it because there was no water available. A group of brothers, led by John Casmir (1796-1874), started a lumber business in 1841 and built a sawmill on the lower Klamath River. In 1862 they founded what became known as The Central Pacific Railroad Company with land grants from Ulysses S. Grant and others including John Davenport (1806-68). The company built several stations along its route, including Keizer where it connected withthe Northern Pacific Railway in 1865. In 1872, Cornelius Vanderbilt sold his interest in The Central Pacific Railroad Company to James Jardine & Co., who had also invested in Canadian Western Railway east of Portland. With this acquisition,Portland becameJardine's new headquarters and Keizer developed into one of its largest towns On July 2, 1876, Edward Everett Hale (1795-1875) delivered a speech entitled "Averell Harriman: His Life and Work" atKeizer High School which was later reprinted as an article in "OregonLive".Hale characterized Jardine as having been "a man who loved work more than he loved anything else." He went on to say that Jardine had been able to build railways because he always thought about three things: getting money back for his shareholders; making money for himself; and keeping his employees happy

In 1881, Oregon became a state after the U.S. federal government approved the Oregon Territory's request for admission as a United States territory. The territories were created when the Mexican-American War ended and Mexico ceded most of California, Nevada, and Arizona to the United States in 1848. The area east of the Continental Divide was included in Oregon Territory and it became known as Keizer County because its first settler, Solomon Keizer, located there in 1847. The first town in Keizer County was Byron, founded in 1850 by John Sibley. In 1862, Keizer City was founded by James Wessels and named for him; it was moved to its present location about two miles northeast of downtownKeizer on December 21, 1915.
