The Keizer Air National Guard has a rich history dating back to World War II. The Keizer Air National Guard's predecessors were the 4th Fighter Squadron, established in 1941 as the first combat-ready fighter squadron in Oregon. From its inception through the Vietnam War, KEIANG was an important part of Oregon's air defense network and flew over 25 missions against Viet Cong insurgents. In 1969, KEIANG transitioned to jet aircraft and served as the mainstay of the Guards' aerial deterrence capability until it was disbanded in 1992. Since its establishment, KEIANG has donated more than 1,500 hours of service to our community. members have volunteered their time for various events including family reunions, parades, civic meetings and more. In addition to providing valuable aviation experience for local children and adults, KEIANG also offers life-saving training that benefits boaters on Ochoco Lake and other regional waterways. In recognition of our centuries-long partnership with KEIANG and all those who have contributed to our community through volunteerism and flight training, we are honoring their memory by giving away two pieces of equipment each year. This year's gift is a Piper PAIRT prop plane (pictured), which is used by pilots during flyovers at military exercises; and a Boeing 727LWB Airlift Aircraft (pictured) which can be used for evacuations or funeral services in times of crisis.

The Oregon Air National Guard has a long and proud history in Keizer,Oregon. The guard was founded on December 12th, 1942 as the 243rd Fighter Group by Lt. Colonel Harry Elam. The group was activated at Wynne Field near Portland and equipped with P-38s and B-17s. As the war continued to rage, the group was redesignatedthe 479th Fighter Group on October 1st, 1944 and became part of Ninth Air Force under General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s command. Inactivated on September 15th 1945 at Connell AFB east of Phoenix Arizona following the end of World War II. On January 1st 1947 the Oregon Air National Guard re-established itself as an air force unit when it was activated at Salem Airport south ofPortland along with the 3d Bombardment Wing which had been reactivated from inactive bombardment squadrons at Davis-Monthan AFB east of Tucson Arizona. The wing was assigned to Ninth Air Force and flew F-84Fs until its demise in 1962 when all fighter wings were disbanded due to budget cuts that followed World War II ended plus Vietnam War era military expansions South Korea etc..
Keizer is a small town in Oregon, located on the banks of the Columbia River. It was founded by brothers Ezra and Solomon Keizer in 1847 as a dry goods store and post office. The Keizers were early settlers in what is now Oregon. In 1859, they built the first school in Keizer and continued to operate it until 1966. In that year, they also built the first local hospital. The Keizers were major landowners inKeizer until their death in 1976. They are buried at Mount Hood Cemetery. The town was named for my great-grandfather, John Dyer Keizer, who had arrived in Oregon from Illinois about 1835. He was a fur trader and later became an explorer and prospector near present-day Portland. After selling his holdings hereabouts he went westward to settle near Noosa on the Gulf of Mexico where he died about 1886 (his tombstone remains). My grandfather Ezra Ayer Keiser learned English from his father and settled hereabout 1880; he operated a grocery store for many years before moving to Salem, Ore., when that city became known as an important center for bilingual education under Superintendent Abbott Weisenthal (1885-1962).

Since then, many other countries have joined America in gifting planes or spacecraft to our nation’s armed forces. Some examples include: Italy in 2003 when they donated an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet; China in 2007 when they gifted a Type 056 JF-17 Thunderchief fighter jet; France in 2011 when they gifted two Airbus A321neo jets; Spain in 2013 when they gifted two Super Hornet fighters; Denmark in 2016 when they gift two Gripen fighter jets; Australia in 2018 when they gift four Boeing 737 MAX planes; and Japan in 2020 when they gifted three Hasegawa E1D AWACS helicopters. The USAF Gift History is indicative of American generosity and friendship towards our allies. It also provides unique insight into how America differentiates itself from other nations during this tumultuous time period. By giving away such valuable assets, the USAF has helped improve relationships between America and its friends around the world – something that we hope will last for years to come!

Keizer is a city in The Oregon Territory, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. It was founded on January 14, 1861 by C.F. Keizer and his brother-in-law J.B. Holmes as a small town on the banks of the Willamette River after they were granted land east of what is now Salem, by United States President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War. The city increased its population from about 100 people in 1871 to over 1,500 by 1901 and 3,000 by 1911; it became an important railroad hub during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century due to its location at the junction of several major railroads serving The Northwest region. Keizer's economy changed dramatically after World War II when both petroleum production and consumer goods became more prevalent in Oregon; Keizer experienced rapid growth through both industrialization and suburbanization until it reached its current level of prosperity only during recent decades due to strong economic development within The Oregon Territory itself as well as outside investment including new housing developments along Interstate 5 near downtown Keizer since 2000.
The first Europeans to visit Oregon were the Spanish in 1814, and the first Englishman, Capt. John McLoughlin, arrived in 1825. The area now known as Oregon was part of Mexico until it was acquired by the United States in 1846. The newly formed U.S. government developed a plan for the area called the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850, which granted land to American settlers for free from Mexico. In 1862, Washington Territory was created from parts of Oregon and Nevada, and on January 5, 1863, Oregon became a state within that territory.
