The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Hillsboro, Oregon was founded in 1916. The first COAST GUARD Aide unit was organized on December 10, 1916 and served as a dispatch service for the Coast Guard at Fort Clatsop. In 1917, the COAST GUARD Aide Unit became an adjutant unit and began providing security for Portland Harbor. In 1941, the COAST GUARD Aide Unit became a coast guard station and continued providing security for Portland Harbor. In 1967, the Coast Guard Auxiliary merged with Oregon State Police to form the Oregon State Police Department (OSP). On May 1, 1969, theCOAST GUARD Aide Unit in Hillsboro was disbanded and its assets were transferred to OSP Headquarters in Portland. Today, there are three coast guard stations within Oregon that provide services to area residents: Hood River Station (in Tillamook County), Astoria Station (in Multnomah County), and Millikin Beach Station (near Depoe Bay). Each station has an Auxiliary detachment that provides support to other stations within the state. The mission of each station is similar but different; however all three serve as points of contact for local communities when it comes to coastal emergencies or law enforcement activity on Oregon’s coastline. In 1916-1967, Hillsboro’s COAST GUARD Aide Unit provided security for Portland Harbor from docks located at Southwest Third Avenue and Harrison Street until they relocated to Northwest Third Avenue in 1941 when they became part of Portland State Force HQ Command Post #1 after merger with Oregon State Police HQ Command Post #2

Hillsboro is a town in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Willamette Valley and is surrounded by the city of Portland to its south and east, as well as Wilsonville to its north. The first Europeans to visit Hillsboro were U.S. Army Captain George Vancouver and his men in 1792. The area was part of the Rogue River Indian Reservation until 1838 when it was taken over by the United States government for development into a town. In 1853, the town name was changed from Yelverton to Hillsboro after Major General David Hills, commander of Fort Douglas during the Mexican–American War. In 1899, Portland developer James Hinchcliffe donated land for what would become Pioneer Square in downtown Hillsboro. The square includes several buildings that still stand today including Hinchcliffe's house and store which now houses a glass shop called Glassblower's Gallery; and John Fenton House which served as a jail for many years before being demolished in 1951 to make way for Pioneer Hall (now High School). In 1913-14, Hillsboro became one of only two towns in Oregon to have their own water supply system - through connecting an underground network extending throughout most of Clackamas County with Lake Oswego - when Waterworks Company founder Jens Christensen donated his farm land along with equipment and financial support towards this undertaking. One significant event that occurred during this time period took place when Mayor Harry Steffen successfully campaigned against annexation by neighboring Portland while also working diligently on behalf of residents seeking same – ultimately resulting in Steffen becoming mayor twice (1924-25 & 1929-30). Upon re-election as mayor in 1932 he once again worked tirelessly for annexation but this time successful upon ratification by voters; making him one of the longest serving mayors ever elected to office in Oregon history! A major factor that led to increased growth within Hillborhood during this time frame were new businesses such as Kress Camera & Photo Supply moved into property vacated by older businesses following World War II due largely to proximity to Interstate 5 and other transportation options available then; coupled with continued housing affordability spurred on by tight prices for farmland relative to urban areas nationally at that point! Today some 7500 people call Hillsboro home – making it one of Oregon’s most populous towns! In recent years there has been a concerted effort spearheaded by local leaders such as City Manager Donny Morsewhiteside who has spearheaded various community initiatives designed promote economic vitality within our central business district while ensuring public safety via efforts like Operation Safe Streets/Operation: streetshell which annually divert over 100 violent crimes from our neighborhoods onto arterial streets near high schools; investments like Park Blvd Corridor which provides trails/access points throughout much OFHTA land adjacent TOI& light rail stations providing multiuse opportunities enjoyed primarily by young families enzymatically cycling around school lunch hours or using mass transit - attracting both retail & restaurant tenants – while also developing new infrastructure such as Staple Plaza anchored directly opposite MAX Train Station infusing MUCH needed lifeblood funds back into our economy thereby resurrecting numerous blighted properties adjacent thereto!
