The Gladstone Naval Shipyard was the first naval shipyard in the United States and it operated from 1853 to 1865. The yard became a part of the Navy during World War II and produced ships for the war effort. Today, the yard is home to the Oregon National Guard's gunnery school and operates as a museum. Gladstone, Oregon is a small town located in The Snake River Valley of southeastern Oregon. It was founded by George Gladstone in 1886 as a ranch and wheat farm. The Gladstone name comes from the local mountain gladiolus, or gladioid bulb. Today, the town has a population of about 350 residents and it is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Gladstone was once a busy agricultural center with many farms and ranches producing thousands of acres of wheat, hay, cattle, sheep, and other livestock. Today only a few families live in Gladstone proper and most residents commute to work in Portland or Salem. George Gladstone was an early settler who came to The Snake River Valley in 1846 looking for land to homestead. He found some good land but it was too rocky for farming so he turned his attention to goldmining near La Grande. When he realized there wasn't much gold available here he returned home to start anew on his new farmstead at Gladstone Creek. The first buildings were built around 1887 when George's son-in-law William Penrose arrived from Illinois with his family. William built the first frame house in what is now Gladston Square and started selling groceries from his store soon after. In 1890 William's daughter married John Alderney who moved into what is now the square as well. QUEENSLAND FARMERS' MARKET - This Polk Street business began as an Agricultural Outfitters store back in 1896 when Mrs Lillie Hargrave ran it together with her husband Wm Clements (the general manager). In 1916 they sold out their interest to instate grocery stores J Gorman & Sons which operated until 1977 when they became Ruby Tuesday’s market Place; later Stillwater Grocery Co., Inc.. Purchased by Safeway supermarket chain 1990 Today one can find several restaurants including Neptune’s Grill which opened its doors on October 1st 2002; Mandarin Oriental restaurant opened on December 5th 2006; Pizza hut also opened up shop hereabouts on May 17th 2009; Dairy Queen - open since 1951 next door to where Safeway used to be (closed 2011); Asphalt Pavement Company closed down their business behind Neptune’s Grill on July 15th 2013 along with all other businesses within walking distance inside old Safeway parking lot... The community experienced some hard times during the late 1990s when controls over access to water resources led Tooele County officials begin restricting water usage by businesses within short distance of each other resulting in economic hardship for many citizens especially those living close enough for shopping malls without any nearby water source/options apart from buying recycled bottles or bringing water from distant filter plants tapped into adjacent reservoirs

Gladstone was born in 1809 in England and arrived in North America in 1825. He soon became known as a powerful politician and leader of the Conservative Party in Canada. In 1834, he became the Prime Minister of Great Britain and led a successful effort to break free from British rule. When he left office, he left behind a lasting legacy of conservatism in Great Britain. When Gladstone returned to America, he decided to settle down in Oregon Territory. He purchased land near present-day Gladstone on November 15, 1835, and began construction on his first home – an adobe building called "The Ranch." The town begangrowing quickly due to the fertile soil and natural resources available here. By 1840, Gladstonian settlers had erected more than twenty buildings including churches, schools, businesses and homes. In 1850, Utah Territorial Governor James Wickersham appointed Gladstone as commissioner of Indian affairs for Oregon Territory. This position gave him access to all aspects of Indian Affairsromanagement within Utah Territory - something that would later prove important during his time as governor. As commissioner, Gladstone helped develop policies that allowed for increased white settlement within Oregon Territory and promoted economic development through irrigation projects and agricultural production. During his time as governor (1851-5), Gladstone also worked tirelessly on behalf of education reform throughout Utah Territory - helping create what is now known as Brigham Young University (BYU). In addition to his work with education policy, other highlights of his term include passage of the Married Women's Property Act (1852), which granted women property rights; establishment ofurdy civil service corps; creationof county courts;and enactmentofthe Lawless Streets Ordinance (1854). These measures helped spur growth withinOregon Territory while also creating opportunities for new settlers3furthering regional integration4federal control over northern Utah Territories5duringthe antebellum period6。
