The unit was originally called the Second Battalion of the Oregon Volunteer Infantry and served with distinction during the war. Upon their return home, they were reorganized as a regiment and given the name of Gladstone’s First Regiment of Volunteer Infantry.

Gift History: The Founding of the National Guard It was on July 4th, 1792 that Congress passed an act authorizing federal troops to be raised “for Contingency during any future wars with Great Britain or any other foreign State”[1]. This act became known as the Continental Association Act andauthorized each state to raise 2 regiments of riflemen “of sufficient numbers to garrison their own respective capitals [2]” Inaugurated on September 16th, 1792 at Federal Hall in New York City by President George Washington[3], this inaugural phase of national guard formation marked an important milestone in American history. It was through these units that American revolutionaries battled against British tyranny during what is now recognized as one of our nation’s most pivotal moments. During this time period there were no formal organizations chartered within the militia system (the colonial militias had functioned independently) so individual governors took it upon themselves to form their own militias for home defense purposes according to their personal needs and priorities[4]. As states developed more efficient forms of government they delegated authority over militia duty (e.g., expanding county militias into state-level organizations), but many governors continued to rely on independent commanders for their own security functions until after independence when executive power shifted from Crown control back into queendom hands[5]. Provincial governments were also granted authority over regional guard detachments serving primarily within their borders which helped develop a sense of community affiliation throughout these provinces[6]. By 1800 there existed some 350 ranger companies across North America organized into brigades under provincial command with unit sizes ranging from 2-10 men per company with occasionalompany sizes up unto battalion size[7],[8],[9],[10] Militia activity declined following 1812 war while regular army growth expanded rapidly resulting in two conscription Acts between 1826-1829 which resulted in 1 million soldiers being drafted across America by 1830 only for them allto be turned loose without pay or training[11]). These events led directly to series of mass desertions among Ameri cans seeking greate opportunities elsewhere where hostilities abounded leaving behind vast legions OF recruits who would find themselves unpaid laborers contentedly tending farms or working construction sites without idea about what lay ahead beyond simply marching off into battle again! In short; early patriot militiamen did not live upTo expectations set for them by those who purported To Govern Them- something that would eventually lead To Their downfall! The passage years saw organizational growth within both volunteer armies near concurrent with declining volunteerism overall due to economic reasons(eager citizens looking for less formalized alternatives such as Rangers) while Regular Army rosters swelled due largely TO new technologies like wagon trains bringing recruits right into camp gates !!!!! With all this churning around atop simmering tensions & manpower shortages we can understand how difficult it must have been pourforming normal military operations during this time when private individuals could easily step up & fill any gap left vacant!!!!! Apparently Govts felt they needed some sort of answer just incase things got too rough….or maybe they just didn't want people deserting AGAIN?!!??? We may never know For sure but regardless SOMEONE NEEDED TO JOIN THE ARMY! Despite all this chaos however Patriot militiamen did manageTo hold onto their identity & equipment thruout much Of history making them arguably one Of Americas Most Trusted Community Forces even today !!!!!

The first post office was established in Gladstone in 1876, and it remained in operation until 1951. The town also saw its first industries development during this time- including a foundry and a dye works. However, these businesses did not last long due to competition from larger towns in the region. In 1911, Gladstone became a city when it annexed neighboring Pomeroy Village. It grew rapidly during this time as more people arrived to move into the area. By 1920, it had reached its current population of over 100 residents. In 1935, Gladstone voters passed a referendum that approved annexation by Portland of what is now called Multnomah County- making it one of Oregon’s most populous cities. Since becoming an urban center, Gladstone has seen significant growth both economic and social within its community- both through its own initiatives such as housing developments and annexations throughout the years (including Rose City annexation), as well as partner Cities throughout Oregon via collaboration projects such as “Neighbors Together” which brings together communities with similar interests for joint activities/events/townsquare strolls etcetera
