In 1951, Commodore Harry Sprague donated 20 rifles and 10 shotguns to be used at Marine Barracks (now hTPD Building) as well as 50 rounds per rifle for each man under command during peacetime exercises called ‘Gunnery Week’. These exercises were also used to train Marines how best use firearms during wartime combat conditions should they ever encounter insurgents or hostile forces abroad! A plaque honouring Commodore Sprague can still be seen inside the building that now houses hTPD which was dedicated in 1955! After WWII ended there was another period where Marine gifts stopped coming from local civilians until 1986 when Captain James Laughlin donated 18 cans of rifles (then known as M1 Garands) to Marine Barracks just prior to his retirement from the marines! This donation marks not only an important milestone but also demonstrated why marines are so cherished by local civilians – they have always been able to provide essential equipment needed by our troops no matter where they may be stationed aroundthe world! Over time more donations like this continued being made which helps show how much love is felt by these men and women serving our country abroad! From 1986-1992 items like coffee mugs, T-shirts, hats etc were contributed regularly until itAll came to a halt due mainlyto budget cuts however over time there has been occasional contributions back into the community through various events such as bake sales & car wash days!! Nowadays locals come together every few months or so on special days such as Memorial Day/ Veterans Day & December 15th annually(next Saturday!)to celebratemarine gifts received over previous years!!! It truly is an amazing story that starts with one person(corporal clements)and continues all the way thrut he present day!!!!

In 1847, the town of Gladstone was founded in southern Oregon by John W. Dixon and his family. Dixon wanted to named his new town after one of his favorite British MPs, Sir William Gladstone. The community quickly grew and soon had a school, store, and post office. In 1851, Dixon donated land for the present day Gladstone park which is now home to much of the town's history. By 1850, Gladstone was hosting a small population of about sixty people. However, it rapidly grew into an important post-town in southern Oregon because of its commerce and its location on the route between both Portland and Sacramento. A sawmill located in Gladstone formed the mainstay of local industry until 1914 when production shifted to Tellico Canyon Mills in nearby Hood River County. Gladstone’s growth as a center for trade fostered social activity that has played an important role in its history ever since. Local organizations have included the Odd Fellows Masonic Lodge #1 (established 1872), the Methodist Episcopal Church (established 1873), and the American Legion (established 1907). The community also developed a strong sense of community identity that persists to this day.

Gladstone, Oregon is a small town in the Siuslaw County area of Oregon. It was founded in 1887 by George Gladstone and his wife, Emma. The town is named after the British Prime Minister, William Gladstone. The town was first established on an agricultural land grant from the government. In 1888, the Gladstones donated two acres of their land to build a store and post office. The first building was built on what is now Main Street. In 1890, the town had two schools: one for boys and one for girls. A Methodist church also opened in 1892. A sawmill was built in 1897 and operated until 1903; it produced lumber for buildings and other objects in Gladstone until it closed down due to economic difficulties. In 1899, a Post Office Department building was erected; it served as the local mail room until 1970 when it became part of the Oregon State University campus library system). In 1902, Gladstone had its own railroad station which served as an important transportation link between Portland and rural areas around the county seat of Portland (now Roseburg). The telegraph line from Portland to Gladstone opened in 1903 and continued serving until 1941; it provided internet access service to residents at their homes through telephones during this time period. A fire destroyed most of downtown Gladstone on February 3, 1906; while reconstruction began immediately, only two businesses were reopened by 1912 because they could not afford new equipment or staff. A grocery store replaced both stores in 1916 following a fire that destroyed several other businesses near Main Street Corner with School Street during lunchtime.--Gladstone's community spirit led some people to start a bake saleceeding $500 towards rebuilding efforts.--Businesses reopen soon following rebuild
