The Forest Grove Air Force Base is home to the Oregon National Guard's 4th District, which is responsible for providing air support for forest fire suppression operations in the Portland-Sandy Hills area. The base was opened in 1948 and has a current population of 2,500 military members and civilians. It covers an area of 362 acres and is home to three squadrons of fighter jets, five training ranges, two bomb storage facilities, three armories, and four hangar areas. The Forest Grove Air Force Base gift history began with the donation of two Consolidated PBYs to the United States Army Air Forces on Valentine's Day in 1944. These planes were used as aerial refueling tankers during World War II. On December 15, 1946, Forest GroveANGF was renamed "Oregon National Guard Field (later AFB) Forest Grove" in honor of General Hoyt S! Vandenberg Jr., Commander-in-Chief Pacific Fleet during World War II and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at that time.General Vandenberg had flown over Portland on his first visit to America as Commandant General of the Marine Corps on September 12, 1941 when he delivered remarks at a luncheon sponsored by the American Legion at Multnomah Falls Park near Portland. The field was located about one mile east of what is now Indianola Road just north of where Interstate 5 crosses it today. In 1949 another donation from Mr. Charles Fenton allowed for establishment of a flying school which would later become available as an undergraduate program at USNA via Northwest Arkansas State University while also providing graduate aviation training opportunities for USAF officers seeking advanced degrees or licenses in other Aviation disciplines including Helicoptercraft/Aerospace Engineering; Aircraft Maintenance/Operations; Tactical Airlift Pilot Officer Candidate School; Military Intelligence Officers Wing Training Program; Aeronautical Research Laboratory-. In addition there are still ongoing civilian students enrolled through Northwest Arkansas State University who have taken courses offered by both schools along with advanced research projects currently being conducted by both institutions as part of their Afloat Warfare Studies Course program

Forest Grove is a town in Yamhill County, Oregon, United States. The population was 5,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The area now known as Forest Grove was first settled by farmers in 1847. The town site was chosen because of its longitude and latitude: it lies between Salem and Portland on the Willamette River. In 1868, forest land east of present-day Forest Grove was donated to make way for a railroad station and highway interchange; this development led to growth in the town over time. In 1915, Forest Grove became an incorporated municipality; it had been part of Yamhill County since 1869. The name "Forest Grove" originated with a grant from General Edwin Drake to local citizens in 1916 to promote agriculture and forestry hereabouts. In 1940, when Beaver Dam Creek flooded most of the town center due to heavy rains, resident Isadora Gay used her influence with then-Mayor Harry Dean Smith to get money from the federal government for reconstruction; this effort helped spark new development in Forest Grove and other parts of the county following World War II. Today, Forest Grove is home to many businesses including several large grocery stores as well as restaurants and bars catering to a variety of tastes and budgets. A large number of trees has been planted throughout the downtown district which offers great views during day or night walks around campus or city limits - both inside and outside various business districts (e.g., Santana Row). There are also many parks available within walking distance for residents wishing for some peace and solitude amid all that bustle nearby (e.g., Pioneer Park), while still enjoying all that life has to offer such as easy access into/out of town (including Interstate 5)
In the early days of aviation, there were only a few planes and no air force. The first airplane was built in 1903 by George Washington Wright. The air force was created on December 12, 1947 when the United States Air Force became an official body with the passage of the National Defense Act. The first jets were designed in 1942 by Boeing and Lockheed Martin and flew into combat in World War II. Over time, different types of aircraft have been used to provide military service such as bombers, fighter jets, helicopters and submarines. Today, the USAF has more than 350 active duty units that are divided into 27 wings which provide strategic bombing support; nuclear deterrence; surface warfare; global operations center (GOC); electronic warfare capabilities; cyber warfare capabilities; space forces; Global Strike Command (GSC). Additionally, additional organizations are attached to Headquarters USAF for joint military missions including: Special Operations Command (SOCOM), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), European Command (ECAMDEL), Pacific Command (PACOM) and CENTCOM.
In 1957, the USAF announced a gift program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its creation. The program was called "The Air Force 50 Years" and gave away gifts to members of the military, civilians and organizations throughout the United States. Gift programs like this continue to be administered today by the USAF through its Military Partner Program.
Forest Grove is a town in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Portland-Vancouver-Ogden Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first residents of Forest Grove were British soldiers who garrisoned theXP Ranch in 1848. In 1854, John J. Hall and his brother Caleb founded the town of Forest Grove on land that they had purchased from the XP Ranchowner, David Dudley Clark. In 1855, Nathaniel Pumphrey settled in Forest Grove as well. A post office called "Forest Grove" was established in 1865, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. The first store opened in Forest Grove on October 15, 1872 by Rufus Sorenson with $1 per week (USD). A gristmill began operations on November 16th of that year. The mill became a full-time operation under owner George Wernham two years later when he bought it from Wernham's father-in-law Samuel Wingate Jr.. The mill continued to be operational until 1981 when it stopped due to lack of customers and money issues following the recession. It reopened under new ownership as an antique store before shutting down again in 2009 after numerous problems with its servers and building including water leaks and code violations. By 2018 there were only three employees working at the store which closed after repeated fire alarms going off without an emergency response. In February 2019 federal agents raided the business after receiving complaints about unlawful activities conducted at the property.
