Coffee has been enjoyed in Eugene, Oregon for many years. In 1885, the first coffee shop opened on First and Main. The business was called the American Coffee House and served coffee from a small cup. The first commercial coffee beans were grown in Eugene in 1895 by J.M. Holland and Sons. The Holland family continued to grow their coffee bean operation until 1922 when it closed down due to World War II restrictions on exports of food products. In 1956, Eugene’s first drive-through Starbucks opened up in the area now known as Pioneer Square Shopping Center. This was followed by other businesses that dotted Pioneer Square over the years including Dunkin Donuts, Sonic Drive-In, and Barnes & Noble before it all came to an end in 2009 when Microsoft moved out of its former headquarters at 5th and Morrison Street - leaving behind only two small shops remaining: Joe’s Coffeehouse and Lowen’s Coffeehouse! Today there are numerous cafes located throughout Eugene with different levels of customer service offering variations on drip or espresso drinks along with pastries such as donuts or croissants - giving visitors something to do each day while they're here!

Eugene, Oregon is a small city in the Willamette Valley of northeastern Oregon, United States. The population was 17,587 at the 2010 census. Eugene is the largest city in and the county seat of Lane County. It is also home to the University of Oregon, one of the most prestigious universities in America. Eugene's nickname "The City by the Bay" comes from its location on Cannery Row on the bay side of downtown and its proximity to other major ports such as Salem and Hood River. Eugene was founded by Captain George Vancouver in 1797 as a commercial port on Salamander Island after sailing downriver from British Columbia. The first European to see what lay beyond his current limits was Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo who landed here on July 25, 1542 with his ship San Felipe and charted portions of today's Oregon Country including present-day Eugene while ashore at Snohomish Lake. In 1825, John McLoughlin built McLoughlin House as an opera house for use by local farmers and their families during revivalist period gatherings that took place throughout central Oregon. By 1843 over 100 stores had been established in downtown Eugene along Cannery Row with more than $5 million worth of merchandise being traded annually across town via those two streets alone! In 1852 a new courthouse was erected adjacent to Fort Hill Park northwest of downtown; it served until 1917 when it burned down due to arsonism (a common problem then). By 1860 there were 169 businesses operating in Downtown Eugene! In 1865 Portland mergers created five regional councils which included Eugene but these did not take effect until 1872 when they were formalized into a City Council which lasted until 1975 when Portland annexed Eugene proper! The first African American resident arrived here in 1870 - James Weems - working as an errand boy for local lawyer Lewis Cass! This important event helped solidify Black presence within this ethnically diverse community through work, education and housing opportunities well into the 20th century! After years of legal wrangling betweenPortland &Eugene over property titles & boundaries various rundown warehouses/factories became homes for many people during prohibition era years- some still extant today (@Alcoholics Anonymous!). A public library opened here in 1906 & has grown into one of America's leading research libraries with holdings exceeding 5000000 items! During World War II almost all manufacturingTL&C ceased production so much so that much used paper stock ended up dumped offshore near Newport News VA becoming known as "The Great Northwest Paper Scavenging Scheme!". Eugene, Oregon was founded in 1847 by Capt. James K. Polk and his wife Anna Maria Polks. The city grew rapidly during the Gold Rush of 1849, becoming one of the most important settlements on the West Coast. In 1863, Eugene became the capital of Oregon and was named for President George Washington Eugene. The Eugene-Marathon County Courthouse was built in 1872 and is still in use today as a courthouse. In 1893, Eugene hosted the first international exposition called "The Centennial Exhibition of America." Eugene also played a significant role in World War II as an airfield for U.SAAF bombers during the Pacific Air Offensive against Japan.
