Eugene, Oregon is a small town in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The population was 10,866 at the 2000 census and has grown to 14,853 since then. Eugene is the county seat of Douglas County and home to the University of Oregon. The city was founded in 1875 by George Morrison and named for him, Eugene de la Salle Morrison. The first post office in Eugene opened on October 15, 1876. It was renamed Murdock in 1877 after Hyrum Mound Murdock, an early settler. In 1888, the name was changed to Eugene after General Ulysses S. Grant who had been born there in 1828. In 1912, it became an incorporated city with a population of 20,000 people. The city's history can be traced back to more than just its current location; it has beenhome to several cultures over the years including Native American (Cheyenne), European (British), Japanese (Nisei), and Chilean immigrants as well as Mormons from Nauvoo Village during the 1850s and 1860s. In 1865 two brothers – Brigham Young and David Whitmer – founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). They arrived in what is now downtown Eugene while they were on their way from Salt Lake City acrosscountry service on April 6th 1865 with dozens of other Mormon pioneers under leadership of President Abraham Lincoln (). After arriving they organized their new settlement around Pioneer Cabin () which still stands today within walking distance of campusaday LDS headquarters Building (). Their original house stood until 1974 when it burned down following a lightning strike that damaged partof Pioneer Cabin although no one was ever injured (). After landing on American soil at what is now Point Defiance () they set out exploring northwestward into what would become Douglas County (). One day they came upon an especially high hill called "Mountain Meadows" () which served as their summer home for many years before being moved east () around 1880). As this area continued To grow resources were found that could be sold off such as land near present day Thomas Road (), increasing traffic caused by demand for farmland brought about hydropower development starting about 1902 (), mills started up along McKenzie Creek (), Cascade Lumber Company began production at Whatcom Falls () producing lumber for building construction (), steel production started up along Tualatin River Steel Workshops where toolsmiths created tools out of different materials like wrought iron etc.,and government contracts led to numerous businesses opening up throughout centralDouglasCounty like Everett Glassworks (), Logans Mills Brewery ())()(), Journeys Bottling Company ())()(), Wartime Clothing Store ())())(). Today much or all these businesses are gone but a few remain such as Everett Glassworks where glass products continue to be made today (); Logans Mills Brewery where craft beers are brewed (); Journeys Bottling Company where hard liquor is bottled (); Wartime Clothing Store open until 1976
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of what coffee is, and therefore whether or not it has a history. However, coffee beans are believed to have been roasted in small batches for around 4,000 years ago. This precludes any one time point from being the origin of all coffee beans. In fact, there are multiple origins of coffee that have been mentioned over the years – some dating back as long as 12,000 years! The most commonly accepted origin for Arabica beans is from Africa. However, other sources list Ethiopia as the birthplace of this type of coffee. It’s thought that early human migrants found their way through Arabia to North Africa where they started roasting their own beans and selling them back to locals. Although it seems like everything we know about coffee comes from Ancient Greece or Africa – especially since they were both responsible for developing kopi (coffee) – there was another major player in this industry before either of those places: Lettechaios (meaning “the craftsman”). Lettechaios was a master brewer who lived in Athens during the fourth century BC. He learned how to roast and brew Coffee Beans from his father and later perfected these techniques on his own. This discovery led to many different types of Coffee becoming available throughout Greece at this time such as Koffee Kopi and Teakettle Coffee! Although not all Bean Roasters credit Lettechaios with originating their craftsmanship, he does get recognition for creating some truly iconic strains such as Sumatra Selatan which is considered to be among the best dark roasts ever made. In short, lettechaionomoeia (master Brewer) played an important role in developing certain aspects of modern day Coffee making; some that we still enjoy today!
