Corvallis, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Clackamas County. The population was 43,553 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Clackamas County after Portland. It is located on the Willamette River in eastern Oregon and is part of the Portland–Oregon metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Corvallis were fur traders who came in 1823−24 for trade with the Yakutian people. The town was founded by Captain George Vancouver on December 12, 1825 as Fort Astoria under command of Lieutenant James Cook. It became a small trading post until it moved to its present location on December 16, 1847 when Congress created Clackamas County from parts of Multnomah and Clatsop counties. The first school in Corvallis opened on January 11, 1848 just east of downtown along State Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues. In 1850, a courthouse/ jail was built west of downtown on Third Avenue between Washington and Jefferson Streets; this building still stands today as part of Oregon State University's old campus. A new courthouse was completed in 1902 at Sixth Avenue and Northwest Boulevard; that building also still stands today as part of PSU's old campus. In 1907, an electric streetcar line called "The Oregon" ran fromPortland to Corvallis via Albany (now Salem). The route ran down Main Street through downtown Corvallis before turning north onto Northwest Boulevard where passengers boarded buses for their final journey back to Portland or Albany (now Salem). In 1915 Corvallis got its own water system when Pacific Gas & Electric became owner/operator thereof; thereafter PG&E served all corvinians with service beginning on October 16th 1922 with City Water System #1 which connected Pioneer Park southward thence across Beaverdam Creek into town limits until 1932 when Service began extending northeasterly out into unincorporated territory including present day North Bend On July 5th 1897 there was a fire that destroyed most everything within 200 feet radius around Main Street intersection including several homes One week later $5000 had been raised local & state governments agreed to cover loss plus interest over 10 years starting from then

It is located on the Willamette River and within its boundaries are five cites: Corvallis, Hood River, Pendleton, Roseburg and Troutdale. The first Europeans to visit what is now Oregon were French traders in 1775-76 when they passed through the area on their way to find new land for France. On July 4, 1836, Congress created Columbia County from portions of Clackamas and Multnomah counties by passing an act entitled "An Act to give Counties Consolidation," which authorized the building of a courthouse in Corvallis and other county seats throughout the state. The first courthouse with room for all fifteen towns in Columbia County was built on stagecoach days in 1837 by Jens Jensen and Company under contract from Secretary of State John Cushing. The original cornerstone was laid by Governor Isaac Hill on November 13th that year; it still stands just south of downtown Corvallis today as part of Pioneer Courthouse Square. In 1907–08 construction began on what would become one of the most significant landmarks in Corvallis history – Oregon State University (OSU). At that time it was only an agricultural college with a few classrooms; but over time OSU grew into one of America's leading universities with more than 60 undergraduate degree programs and 100 graduate degrees options including law, business administration, engineering/technology, health sciences/medicine/psychology... In recent years OSU has become home to some world-renowned research programs such as its Biomedical Engineering program which has won several awards including being among top 5% nationally for research quality according to Higher Education Research magazine’s “ preferred provider ” rankings,... In addition to its many campuses around Portland he university operates two satellite campuses - Northwest Health Sciences Campus near Bend and MAX College eastside about 25 miles away from Eugene - giving students access to world-class medical care regardless of location
The city of Corvallis, Oregon was founded in 1843 by John C. Fremont and is the oldest town in Oregon. The city grew rapidly during the Oregon gold rush and reached a population of around 100 people by 1848. The gold rush ended in 1849 and Corvallis slowly began to decline until it only had a population of around 20 people by 1870. However, the city experienced some significant growth after it became an incorporated town in 1907. In 1925, Corvallis merged with neighboring Eugene to form the larger city of Eugene-Corvallis.
