The Marines who deployed to Cornelius, Oregon in 1944 were one of the most decorated units in World War II. They fought in both World Wars and were awarded 11 Medals of Honor, including 5 for heroism. The unit also received a number of commendations from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Cornelius is a small town in Oregon, located along the Snake River and its tributaries. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. Cornelius is known for its Simpsons-themed restaurant, Marge's Tavern, and its annual corn festival. The town also has a small library, a post office, and a few businesses. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cornelius were fur traders from Canada in 1811. They discovered land that would eventually become Oregon when they sailed up the Snake River on their way to trade with Mexico. In 1826, John C Remington founded the town of Lewiston in present-day Idaho Territory after reachingOregon by land route throughthe Rocky Mountains. When he died in 1827, his nephew William Clark took over management of Lewiston and started developing it into an agricultural center with flour mills and other businesses. In 1850, Cornelius became part of the newly organized Wallowa County in southwestern Oregon. By 1860 it had grown sufficiently to create its own government under Mayor James Sowers Sr., who served until 1862 when he was succeeded by Nathan Bedford Forrest Jr.. The early days of Cornelius were difficult because there wasn't muchavailable farmland or water resources for farmers to produce crops or build homes. But as economic conditions improved throughout the late 19th century and 20th century, Cornelius slowly regained some lost ground in terms of economic stability and population growth

The following year, they shipped casseroles and soap as well as grenades and rifles to Marine barracks in Okinawa. In 1957, marines distributed food parcels throughout Japan in order to help provide relief during the Sino-Japanese War. In 1961, they sent cards and flowers to military families stationed in South Vietnam after the United States withdrew from that country. In 1984, marines delivered over 1,000 items - including speaker systems and refrigerators - to troops stationed in Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War. Since its inception as part of the U.S.-led coalition against Saddam Hussein's Iraq in 2003, Operation Iraqi Freedom has seen many shipments arrive at marine bases all over Kuwait City - some even bearing lucky charms meant for children living inside Saddam's prisons! In 2006, marines donated donuts and milk crates stuffed with supplies such as hygiene kits and sleeping bags to help tsunami victims on Japanese coasts post-disaster. And last but not least (in spite of being somewhat unconventional), marines have also been known to send Christmas presents directly into people's homes!

Cornelius, Oregon is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington. It was founded in 1887 by Cornelius Vanderbilt, the founder of The Vanderbilt Company. The town was named for him because he donated land for it. Today, Cornelius has a population of about 130 people and is located near the confluence of the Yakima River and Columbia River. The first settlers to Cornelius were farmers who arrived in 1887. They built homes on small parcels of land that they acquired from Vanderbilt. In 1912, the town became incorporated and began to develop its infrastructure. In 1916, it won a lawsuit against an adjacent townsite over rights to use a creek called Apple Creek as part of their municipal boundary. In 1931, Cornelius became one of the first communities in Washington State to be granted statehood. It has since grown into a large agricultural community with a diverse economy that includes manufacturing, agriculture, and forestry products.Today, Cornelius is known for its culture and history which include its significant role in American history; its architecture; and its annual apple orchard festival which attracts many tourists from around the country
Cornelius was founded in 1854 by John Cornelius and his family. It became a city in 1907. The population was 14,000 in 1900 and peaked at 30,000 in 1950.
