The Cornelius Coast Guard Station has been a part of the community for over 60 years. The Station is dedicated to providing safe passage and protection for residents and visitors on the Oregon coast. The Station was established in 1941 as a result of the need for more than just a simple lighthouse. The original lighthouse was destroyed by fire, and the Station was created to provide an easier route into town from the ocean. Today, the Coast Guard Station provides important services that include: - Anchor chain fishing; - Lifejackets; - flares; - Kitesurfing lessons; - Search and rescue missions; and - The Cornelius Maritime Museum which tells maritime history from early American settlers to today’s vessels.

Cornelius, Oregon is a small town in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It was founded in 1854 by Cornelius H. Smith and his wife, Lillie W. Smith. The town has a population of about 1,500 people today. The first settler in Cornelius was John Atherton, who arrived in 1855. Other early settlers included J.B. Skinner, Jonas Sayer and George Stephenson. Cornelius became an incorporated townsite on December 10, 1868 under the name of Salem Township (later renamed Cornelius). The original plat for Cornelius was filed on November 6, 1872 by James Boteen and Samuel Copley Jr.. The town had its first store opened in February 1873 by Jno Kapp and Bros.. In 1865, the citizens of Salem were granted US Patent No 811,387 for a system of irrigation canals that would later become known as the Snake River Water System. In 1901 the population of Cornelius exceeded 2,000 people when it was annexed to Portland by city ordinance; however it continued to maintain its own government until 1916 when it merged into Portland Municipal Court under a single governance structure with both municipal courts having overlapping jurisdiction over allometry within their respective districts In 1970-1971 residents voted to break away fromPortland and form their own municipality called Westside Borough which still exists today as part of Multnomah County . Cornelius has been host to many annual events such as Kiwanis Club summer campournaments (founded 1912), Cornelia's Festival Parade (founded 1913), Cornelia's Christmas parade (founded 1915), the United States Open Golf Tournament at Roseburg Meadows Golf Course (1920), Pioneer Days celebration held every year since 1951 centered around Pioneer Day activities including corn cribs built especially for that event (now known as 4-H event) and more recently Homecomingfest enjoyed annually throughout May or June

Cornelius is a small town in Oregon, United States. It was founded in 1887 by Cornelius J. Goodwin and his wife Emma Goodyear Goodwin. The town grew rapidly after it was chosen as the site of the new U.S. Army post on the Snake River Indian Reservation. In 1911, Cornelius became a city and has since been known for its large cotton fields and cultural heritage, including its annual Cornelia Cotton Fair which attracts hundreds of people each year to see the exhibits and buy goods from local vendors.
Cornelius was founded in 1871 by Cornelius A. Smith, a surveyor and settler. The town was named for the Cornish word "cran" meaning "a small break in the earth," due to its location on the banks of the Willamette River. Smith's father had also been born in Cornwall, England. The first store in Cornelius opened in 1872. By 1875, corn and other crops were being grown here and flour mills were built. In 1903, Cornelius had a post office and two churches- one Methodist and one Baptist. In 1917, when World War I ended, Cornelius became part of Multnomah County as it was created from parts of Oregon City, Corvallis, Salem and Vancouver County. It remained an agricultural community until after the war when it began to industrialize with smelting plants built here in 1919-1920. This led to increased trade with nearby states as well as more people moving into the town during this time period. The population peaked at around 10,000 by 1930 but declined rapidly thereafter due to social changes (the Great Depression) and other factors such as new transportation facilities being constructed near Portland which made travel much easier between these cities instead of having to journey through rural counties like Cornelius did before them
