They were inspired by a sermon preached by Reverend John Ladd. In 1880, they built a small cabin and soon started hosting meetings there. The first Constitution Lodge was chartered in 1881. The lodge served as the nucleus of what is now the Order of Freemasons in Oregon. In 1905, the lodge changed its name to Canby Lodge No. 527 and began officiating at local funerals and other events. In 1916, it held its first general meeting and adopted a Constitution and By-Laws. That year, it became an affiliate member with The Masonic Order of America (MOA). In 1949, it became an affiliated member with The Grand Orient de France (GONF). In 1974, it changed its name to Canby Lodge No. 995A and celebrated its centennial season.
Canby is a small city in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, located about an hour and a half east of Portland. It was founded in 1851 by John Canby, who named it for his father-in-law, Caleb Cowlings. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. Canby is home to five schools: Canby High School, Canby Middle School, North Eastern Oregon Community College (NECC), and Northwest Community College. In addition to its public schools, Canby has three private schools: Canbyside Christian Academy, Sacred Heart Catholic School and Stonington Preparatory School. In 1916 the Canadian Pacific Railway built a railway line through Canby which now forms part of Interstate 5. This brought much business and development to the town during its early years; some examples include The old Masonic Lodge No. 2 being moved from Salem to Canby in 1922 and becoming the first building on what is now Main Street; many farmers started their businesses here such as Wohlgemuth’s grocery store which became one of the largest in town after moving from Bend; Lumberton Hardware & Sawmill opened up shop here in 1935; canady Chevrolet dealership opened up shop in 1939; Mobile Home Park #8 opened up shop here in 1949; The First National Bank Building was built here in 1957 and served as headquarters for both NECC until that school closed down in 1984 The Ager White Paper Mill closed down due to lack of demand for paper products around this time as well Today there are several small businesses operating out of various warehouses including arts& crafts stores like Tony'sArtisan Bakery & Cafe which reopened last year after closure for almost 20 years ; there are also several restaurants scattered throughout town including Hansen's Chinese Restaurant which reopened last year after closure for almost 20 years ; finally there is still a few warehouses left but they have been converted into high-end lofts or apartments with beautiful views over downtown while they continue to produce local newspapers

Canby was first settled in 1877 by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The town developed as a logging and transportation center, due to its location on the Canby River. Canby became a city in 1916, after it was designated as an incorporated town by the Oregon State Legislature. In 1976, Canby became part of the Portland metropolitan area. The Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through Canby on their way up the Columbia River in 1805-06. A plaque located at the local post office commemorates this event. The expedition's journal entry for July 20, 1805 reads: "Brought home abundance of game and wild fruits; saw several large canoes capsized near our camp." This led to increased trade between the United States and Canada during their travels through North America. In 1877, David Sibley arrived in Canby with his family from Illinois to start a lumber business. After years of successful operations, he sold his lumber business in 1902 to John Waddell for $2 million dollars. Waddell renamed the company JWM Lumber Company and built mills at both Hoodsport (later known as Timberline) and Ontario (now part of Vancouver). In 1915, when Oregon became a state, Canby was designated as its capital city by then-Governor Oswald Garrison Villard Jr.. The city's growth continued until 1926 when it was annexed byPortland due to population growth within that city alone During World War II, Canby played an important role as an Air Force Base logistics center due to its position along Interstate 5 between Portland and Seattle After World War II ended, Canby experienced rapid growth thanks to postwar white flight from nearby Portland . One response to this migration was development of new housing which appears throughout downtownCanby today Today,Canobbys vibrant downtown core is one of its most distinguishing features . It has been said that “the only thing more beautiful than old Oregon is new Oregon without her” . With over 4 square miles (10 km²) of preserved open space ,Canbys central business district offers plenty of opportunity for recreation including hiking/ biking/ fishing/ bird watching /golfing/ picnicking .. etc...
