The Navy has been in Bend for over eighty years. The city was founded by the United States government in 1847 as an outpost on the Deschutes River. It grew quickly, becoming a major center of commerce and industry. In 1875, the United States Department of War created the U.S. Naval Academy to educate naval officers. In 1903, the Naval Shipyard was established in Bend to build warships and submarines. The city flourished during World War II as a manufacturing center for munitions and shipbuilding products. However, during the post-war period, Bend lost its importance as a naval town and declined slightly in population throughout the twentieth century. Today, it is one of several smaller communities located within Oregon's Steel City region that continue to enjoy significant military and industrial ties with Washington D.C..

On July 4, 1846, it was recommissioned and became the USS Oregon. She served as a flagship of Commodore David Dixon Porter during the Mexican-American War and participated in the bombardment of Veracruz on October 20, 1847. Bend, Oregon is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon, on the Deschutes River. The population was 31,527 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Bend County and only second to Bend, Oregon's sister city of Eugene. The first permanent settler in what would become Bend was David Waddell in 1853. By 1865, the area had been bought by Colonel George Miller and named for him asMiller City. In 1870, a post office was established at Bend and the name changed to Bend when Portland became an independent city. The first school in town was built on land donated by Reverend John Day. The town grew rapidly after water supplies were developed nearby in 1876 and 1877 with construction of mills and other industries around bend becoming commonplace throughout much of the late 19th century until World War I when most industry closed down due to wartime restrictions on exports (see 20th century bend). During World War II, many military facilities were constructed here including Fort Clatsop which provided ammunition storage for inland troops; Camp Perry which housed U.SAAF pilots training during WWII; and Navy shipyards such as Naval Supply Depot No 6 which produced aircraft carriers like USS Enterprise (CVN-6) during that time period

Bend, Oregon is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 26,851 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Multnomah County and the home of the University of Portland. Bend became a city in 1935 after being incorporated as a rural town. The name "Bend" comes from the Oso River which flows through it. The first Europeans to visit Bend were fur traders in 1825 and 1826. In 1837, the US Army built Fort Hall on the site of what is now downtown Bend with cannons to protect against Sitka whaling vessels that operated in the area then. The fort was abandoned in 1843 and destroyed by Indians during Indian Wars of 1850-1853. A year later, Congress passed an act declaringMultnomah County land east of Salmon River bound for future cities if they did not provide proper government services within two years. This Act created Bend as its first municipal center with a Mayor and five City Council members who administered all aspects of development including police and fire protection; public health; street cleaning; building permits; education (including schooling for Native American students); trade growth; garbage collection; and real estate development until 1935 when annexation into multistate Portland made it an unincorporated part of that city limits
Bend, Oregon is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the county seat of Bend County. The population was 47,819 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Deschutes River about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Portland and 30 miles (48 km) south of Salem. The first Europeans to explore what is now Bend were Dutch fur traders in 1646, but it wasn't until 1825 that a road from Portland was built through what is now Bend. In 1859, Captain George Vancouver explored the Deschutes River region and named it after his home country, England. He thought it would be an excellent location for a military post because of its strategic location between two important rivers: The Deschutes and the Columbia Rivers. In 1870, Multnomah County was created from part of Clackamas County and in 1871, Bend became part of Multnomah County as well. The first courthouse was erected here in 1872. By 1880, there were over 100 businesses operating in Bend with a population over 575 people! It wasn't until 1937 that Interstate 5 was routed through this area which led to much job growth for those involved with transportation! Bend's nickname "TheCityofBeauty" comes from its many beautiful parks such as Hardscrabble Park and Dunes Park which are perfect for children to play; as well as Wellwater Park which features fishing ponds and canals ideal for swimming; Lighthouse Drive has lovely homes perched atop hills looking out onto Hood Canal; while also having several small shopping districts like Junction City/Eugene or Sadler Square/Portland offer some great choices for groceries or local artists' studios or galleries!
