The history of firearms in Bend, Oregon goes back to the early 1800s. One of the first gun shops in Oregon was located in what is now called the Olde Town district of Bend. The shop was started by two Swedes, Lars and Larsen, and advertised its products in a local paper. In 1857, John C. Fryer opened a store on Congress Street which became known as the Fryer Arms Shop. This business conducted sales both online and offline. The Fryer Arms Shop was later renamed the Western Armory and continued to sell guns until it closed its doors in 1953. In 1862, Major General George Armstrong Custer left Fort McNair for his final campaign against Native Americans at Little Bighorn. Heading into this battle with only 7 rifles, Custer’s unit had to rely on horseback riding and cannon fire to take down these formidable warriors. One of those cannons was given to Captain Edwin Drake by Colonel William Taggart after he destroyed three Indian encampments near present-day Sacramento Countyline on July 6th, 1862. Captain Drake used this cannon for many years before being donated it to the State Historical Society of Oregon in 1985 as part of their collection targeting weaponry from muzzleloaders through artillery dating back to 1775 AD

Bend, Oregon is a small town in the U.S. state of Oregon that lies on the Snake River Plain, about 190 miles (300 km) east of Portland and 128 miles (195 km) north of Seattle. The town was named after John C. Fremont, who had led an exploration party through central Oregon in 1846.
