Beaverton, Oregon is home to the world's first commercial coffee plantation in 1872. The beans were grown by Colonel George Washington Harris and his son-in-law, Captain John McLoughlin. The town was named for General George Morrison, who had been instrumental in helping to found the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Beaverton is an incorporated town in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 29,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Beaverton was founded on December 6, 1877 by James McDonald and his brother-in-law David Rice as a small Mormon Settlement on the east side of the Willamette River. On March 14, 1880, it was renamed "Beaverton" in honor of General John C. Beaver who had commanded U.S. forces againstNative American rebels during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). The first post office in Beaverton opened in October 1880; it remained open until January 1865 when it became known as "Portland." The first store in Beaverton was a grocery business run by Jephcott and Waddell which closed in 1886. In 1893, a sawmill began operations within sight of what would become downtown Beaverton; this mill continued operating until 1915 when it went out of business. A high school for boys opened in 1909 and served as the nucleus for what would become Beaverton's Comprehensive School District; that school district dissolved effective September 1, 1998 when all but oneElementary School merged into PSU's Oregon Education Agency District

The first reference to coffee as a military beverage is from an 1827 book, "The Art of War," which noted that "coffee given in time of peace by officers before they go off on their campaigns" was an effective means of keeping them calm and refreshed. In fact, coffee has even been mentioned in ancient Chinese literature as one of the primitive drinks available for warriors. In 1861, Captain John Prentice developed what would eventually become known as K-Cup Tactical Coffee Machines. These machines were designed to provide soldiers with pre-packaged cups of coffee that could be brewed at home or office locations. This system allowed commanders and troops living far away from battlefields access to fresh coffee while still providing them with a nutritious drink that would help sustain them during wartime conditions. Other companies soon followed suit, creating various types of tactical coffee machines that continue to be popular today.

Beaverton, Oregon is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 56,811 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Oregon and its second-largest city by population to Portland. Beaverton is also the most populous city southeast of Seattle and fourth-largest outside of Phoenix/Mesa AZ. It is located about an hour's drive fromPortland on I-5 and forms part of the Portland–Oregon metropolitan area which has a population of 992,000 as of 2019. The first Europeans to visit what is now Beaverton were traders traveling along the Columbia River in search for fur trading partners in Russia and China. In 1841, James Kapp founded Kapp's Mills on Siuslaw Prairie after purchasing 5 acres (2 ha) near present day Beaverton from Chief Joseph Petty. In 1850, John Crain built Crain's Store on State Street between Southwest Sixth Avenue and Southeast Seventh Avenue in what is now downtown Beaverton; this became one of the first businesses open in town. A store was established by Wm Hoyle in 1851 just north of current day Pioneer Courthouse Square; this became known as "Hoyle's Corner." In 1861, George Yount founded Gresham Mill which served as a commercial center for southeastern Oregon until 1865 when Salem took over that role due to growth within its boundaries – Gresham mill closed down permanently in 1865). The mills played an important role in providing water power for industries such as car manufacturing before supplanting coal fired power sources altogether beginning around 1900 with advances made through industrial research aided by government investment throughout much of America during this period (the early 21st century saw new coalfired power plants constructed all across America). The first post office opened at 7th and Burnside Streets on December 12th, 1871; it was renamed Beaverton on February 10th 1870 because James Kapp had been elected mayoralty candidate for that year but did not take office until March 1st due to term limits set forth by then Governor Oswald Garrison Olney. On January 17th 1890, fire destroyed buildings at Fourth and Beech Streets; these fires are generally considered to be the start of what would become known as Downtown Beaverton development which continued uninterrupted until 1978 when retail stores filled up most of Burnside Street between First and Second Avenues resulting in displacement or disappearance of many small businesses including several Chinese restaurants dating back to Chinatowndescribed locally as "the last great Chinese restaurant" – see Chinatown Development for more detail A courthouse replaced Hoyle's Corner store when it burned down on January 17th 1890 while serving as business headquarters for downtown #beaverTON

However, during the postwar years, Beaverton began to lose its economic prominence and declined gradually until it ceased to exist as a municipality within Oregon in 2001.
