Beaverton, Oregon is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 23,521 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest incorporated municipality in Oregon and the second-smallest city in Oregon after Portland. Beaverton is home to many small businesses and cafes that have served as cultural anchors for its residents since its incorporation in 1949. Small batch coffee first arrived in Beaverton during World War II when military members stationed here took advantage of local roasters who produced quality beans on a small scale. After the war ended, smaller roasters stepped up production as demand grew for high-quality coffee beans from around the world. In 1978, John Paul Stevens partnered with local entrepreneur Donny Olsen to open Beavers Coffee & Cafe on NE 148th Ave. In 1984, Beavers Coffee & Cafe became a national chain with locations throughout Oregon and Washington. As of 2006, there are more than 350 Beavers Coffee & Cafe locations across the United States.
