Beaverton, Oregon is a city located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The population was 21,816 at the 2000 census and its current population is 24,815. It lies within the Portland metropolitan area and is part of the Eugene–Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as an agricultural community on the banks of the Willamette River in 1871. Beaverton grew rapidly during World War I due to its position as a strategic military hub for Allied forces fighting in Europe and Asia. In addition, Beaverton became known for its prestigious universities—Oregon State University (OSU), WSU, and Multnomah County Community College (MCCC)—and for its popular nightlife, including main street's throbbing nightclubs and several architecturally significant hotels downtown. During post-war years Beaverton experienced growth through annexations from nearby municipalities; however, most recently it has seen steady residential development with few attempts at revitalization or adaptive reuse of older buildings dating back to earlier decades. Beginning in the early 1990s, Downtown Beaverton underwent a revitalization campaign spearheaded by then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg that aimed to revive commercial corridors along NE 15th Avenue between Burnside Street and NW Third Avenue while preserving historical architecture throughout much of what had been dubbed "Downtown Beaverton." Completed in 2003, this program included extensive new infrastructure such as sidewalks and streetlights; repairs to century-old heritage buildings; installation of public art around key areas; and creation of an open plaza adjacent to OSU's newly built football stadium which served as an outdoor plaza/festooned square hosting performances by local bands monthly during late summer until fall semester when it was converted into an indoor venue used mainly for university events before being demolished in 2009 following Bloomberg's term ending. Since Mayor Mike McGinnis took office in 2013 aerial mapping reveals that much more progress needs to be made concerning redevelopment eastward along NE Sandy Boulevard including widening sidewalksalong Sandy Boulevard from 25 feet wide minimum out into bike lanes so people can walk safely without fear of getting ran over or having their car broken into while walking - currently there are no plans for any ADA accessible parking anywhere near Sandy Boulevard! Additionally there are many properties along NE Sandy Boulevard that are either abandoned or have serious problems with water infiltration like one home next to busy SW Thurston Street where they've been able to see lead levels rising by 100 ppm since 2013! This lack of planning attention leads me believe that if we want our city to grow again we need more residents who care about what their city looks like not just those who want property values up because they think it will make them rich!
The air force gift history goes back to the early days of the USAF. When America was founded in 1912, there was no air force and only a few rudimentary aircraft. The first AF was organized on October 15th, 1912 when Colonel Harry Elmer Dorman activated a volunteer group of 6 officers and men from Ohio to provide aerial reconnaissance for US military purposes. The first squadron formed in 1913 and flew new type Sopwith Camel trainers. During World War I, the United States Air Force (USAAF) was created as part of the Department of War with the mission to protect American citizens by flying strategic bombing raids against enemy combatants. On September 8th, 1917 Congress passed an act establishing the USAF as an independent service with jurisdiction over all other US services not under its command or control. The 1st Bombardment Squadron (later renamed 2nd Bombardment Squadron) activation at bases all over the country took place on December 12th, 1917; this marked the beginning of what would be one of USAF’s most successful eras as it became one of America’s premier aerial warfare forces during World War II. In addition to its traditional bomber operations including strategic bombing raids against Nazi Germany, Japan and other Axis countries; during World War II USAF also conducted numerous ground-based campaigns such as Operation Overlord which led to Allied victory in Europe; Operation Torch which liberated Africa from Spanish colonial rule; and OVERLORD AAFF campaign which destroyed Japanese airfields in Burma leading to Japan’s surrender. In total, more than 60% of all missions flown by USAF were involved in combat against enemy targets abroad while also conducting numerous humanitarian aid flights throughout WWII.
The USAF became a military service on October 29, 1947. The first gift from the USAF was an M-1 Garand rifle to the Royal Air Force. The USAF also received an F-86 Sabre jet fighter from the United States Air Forces in Europe. In 1953, the USAF received its first air defense system, the Nike Hercules. In 1957, they received their first stealth bomber, the Lockheed P-3 Orion.
Beaverton is a city in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The population was 51,878 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in the county and second most populous in Oregon after Portland. Beaverton is part of the greater Portland metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Beaverton were farmers who arrived around 1851/1852 and named their farm "Beaver Township". In 1882, when Multnomah County was created from parts of Tillamook, Clackamas and Willamette Counties, Beaverton became one of its original townships. The town was incorporated on November 14, 1893. During World War II, Beaverson played an important role as both a munitions plant and via its Willow Creek Air Reserve Base manufacturing aluminum products for the war effort. After the war ended, Beaverton experienced rapid growth as an industrial center with businesses such as Nike (now Nike athletica), JBL (now JBL retailers), Amazon (then Jeff Bezos' online bookstore), Microsoft (then Microsoft Research) and Philips Lighting among its early employees. Today's economy has more emphasis on research and development than production; however many of Beaverton's older businesses still operate including several universities that are located within walking distance of downtown:Multnomah Community College-Portland Campus; Lewis & Clark Community College-Portland Campus; Washington State University-Bellevue Campus; Oregon Health Authority--Oregon Hospital District #2-- Downtown Area In 1978, Burney Engineering Corporation moved to downtown from their original location on NE Alberta Street across from PSU—becoming one of the earliest suburban employers in town. Over time other companies followed suit with Home Depot moving into NW Broadway Shopping Center in 1996 followed by Lowe's opening their first store inside PSU in 2000 before later expanding to SE Hawthorne Boulevard across from Willamette Valley Medical Center in 2006 which merged with Stryker Medical Group Incorporated to form Stryker/Stryker HealthCare plc.; Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in 2011 prior to reopening under different name(s) subsequent to acquisition by Kmart Inc.—the largest retailer remaining open within Sears Holdings after divestiture from Sears Holdings Technologies LLC;; American Eagle Outfitters opened their first store outside of Chicago IL adjacent to US Bankruptcy Court;; Dick’s Sporting Goods filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization prior to reopening under different name(s) subsequent to acquisition by Kmart Inc.—the largest retailer remaining open within Dick’s Sporting Goods after divestiture from Kmart Corporation—and eventually Sam’s Club bringing mall goers inside Greater Portland mall locations starting with Hasbro Studios near Interstate 5 exit 185 ; Finally JBL opened their new building at 119 W Burnside Rd just east of I-5 Exit 185 providing much needed employment opportunities for locals during this difficult time period .
