The first coffee beans were brought to Oregon in 1847 by H.C. Webster and A.F. Carlson, two of the earliest farmers in the area. The first coffee house in Albany, Oregon was built in 1849 by Mr. Armstrong and his brother-in-law, Fenton Armstrong, who operated it until 1861 when it was taken over by the Portland Coffee Company. In 1865, J.H. McCullough started selling coffee from a cart on State Street and soon became one of the most popular vendors in town. From 1870 to 1880, McCullough conducted a cooperative business with several other merchants before shutting down his store because of financial difficulties caused by high prices for coffee and competition from larger stores.. In 1882, Wm Kapp established a grocery store at the corner of Front and High streets which became one of the most important businesses in town during its early years.. In 1886, Liebig & Sons began manufacturing coffee beans here at their plant which continues to this day as one of Albany's most important commercial institutions. In 1898, Guggenheim Bros., operators of an extensive agricultural market nearby (including what is now known as Guggenheim Park), purchased part ownership in Kapp's store and continued to operate it until 1911 when they sold it to John Burtis who ran it until 1975 when it was donated to the University of Oregon Library system where it currently resides

In 1853, the Sacramento-San Francisco railroad arrived in Albany, which led to an increase in business and development. From 1861 to 1865, Albany was the capital of Oregon before it became the capital of Washington state. Today, Albany remains a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to its surrounding communities as well as its namesake city – home to world-renowned ballet company Pacific National Ballet – and rich history.

After World War II, coffees became more industrialized and varietal preference increased among roasters around the world.

Albany, Oregon was founded in 1868 by American pioneers. The town was named for the Albany region of New York City where many of the first white settlers came from. The population of Albany grew rapidly during its early years and a school, post office, and hotel were built soon after it was founded. In 1872, the town became the capital of Oregon when the state was created. Albany continued to grow and become an important center for trade and commerce. In 1916, the city limits were expanded to include what is now eastside Portland. In 1967, Albany become the capital of Oregon again when Eugene moved from Salem to take up that role. During its time as capital, Albany experienced significant growth in both population and economy. One notable event occurred in 1978 when a group of local businessmen formed a business partnership known as "The Rotary Club" to improve economic conditions in downtown Albany. The club helped spur development throughout downtown and also funded several redevelopment projects which have since been completed including new streets, a library addition/renovation project, and new housing developments across from the old post office building on State Street. During its time as capital of Oregon there were also several major changes taking place within its government including: 1)the creation of the Office of Management Services (OMS) within state government; 2)the inauguration of Governor John Kitzhaber; 3)the opening up of state government to more pluralistic representation through passage of Measure 97; 4)the successively increased funding available to various agencies through Measures 106-111; 5)and finally 6)the election victory by John Kitzhaber over incumbent Ted Kulongoski in November 2006 which marked the end of one era atOregon Capitol while beginning another with his successor Blaine Berry
In 1884, the Albany Post Office was established in Albany, Oregon. The post office operated until 1941. In that year, the Territorial government of Oregon was dissolved and the post office was placed into operation under the new United States government. It continued to be used as a mail facility until it closed in 1991.
