In Africa, beans were roasted on small fires before being served with milk and honey. This type of coffee became known as kente (or old Arabica). After World War II, two groups of entrepreneurs decided to start their own businesses in the coffee industry. The first group consisted of businessmen who wanted to create a new kind of coffee that would be popular in North America. They called their product “Brazilian Coffee” because they believed that Brazilian soil was better suited to producing this type of coffee than other places around the world. The second group made their debut with the creation of espresso machines – something that had not been possible before – and quickly became successful enough to become known as “the Starbuckses”. They started outselling Brazilian Coffee by several orders of magnitude! Tahlequah, Oklahoma is a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma that was founded by the Kiowa people in 1867. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. Tahlequah is located on the Arkansas River and is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The Kiowa people were forcibly removed from their land in 1881 and relocated to Indian Territory. They continued to live in nearby Anadarko until they were finally forced out of their land by the United States government in 1907. The Kiowas re-established themselves as a Native American tribe and built their first home near Tahlequah in 1887. The community name derived from an Algonquin word meaning "place where water turns to mud." When World War II began, Oklahoma became an all-out war zone because of its proximity to Texas and other states that joined up with America's allies. The military requisitioned large quantities of food and materials for war production, which created shortages within the state. In response, many small businesses decided to close their doors for lack of business opportunities or simply refused to participate in military production because they didn’t believe it would benefit them any extra beyond what they already received from government coffers. In 1945, when Japan surrendered after World War II, Oklahoma officially regained its sovereignty over her borders - making Tahlequah one of only a few communities not destroyed during the hostilities. As postwar reconstruction began throughout western society, Oklahomans looked for ways to improve their lives and economy while also restoring some sense of order following years of turmoil and upheaval. One such initiative was local government reform which saw Tahlequah become one of several townships within Haskell County formed as part of a larger effort known as OKChoods (Oklahoma City – Tulsa – Chickasha – Altus). This move provided more localized control over resources whilealso increasing opportunities for residents who had) previously been unable or unwilling to engage with county government on a regular basis due either to distance or lack thereof (the average resident lived approximately 9 miles from county seat). As OKChoods developed intoOKCgovernment - led municipalities - Tahlequah's role changed again but this time becoming more significant as both supervisor and center stage player within municipal politics with much greater autonomy than had been envisioned when OKChoods were conceived In November 2009, Republican Governor Mary Fallin announced her candidacy for re-election against Democrat Bill Haslam . On January 6th 2010, she won 50% plus one vote against him
The first white men to enter the area were prospectors in the late 1800s. The first post office was established on Tahlequah Creek in 1887. In 1907, a town was platted and named Tahlequah after General George Armstrong Custer. In 1938, the Oklahoma Territorial Legislature designated Tahlequah as the county seat of Tulsa County.
