The Oklahoma National Guard has been in existence since 1907. The original unit was the 4th Infantry Regiment, which was organized on February 17, 1907. It was the first independent military force in Oklahoma. The unit saw service during World War I and II as a cavalry regiment and infantry battalion. After the war it became an artillery regiment before disbanding in 1966. In 1987, the National Guard was reorganized as a brigade-level military organization within the Department of Defense Special Purpose Forces Command. The brigade then became an army brigadier general level command with headquarters at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. On October 1, 2007, brigadier general John Denton assumed command of the brigade from colonel Donnie McGeehan. Since its creation as a brigade-level military organization under DODSPECIAL PURPOSE FORCES COMMAND, THE OKLAHOMA NATIONAL GUARD HAS SERVED IN A NUMBER OF EMERGING WORLD ONSLOWMENTS INCLUDING THE SOUTH KOREAN WAR (1949-1950), IRAQ AND SYRIA (2003-2009), AND THE YEMEN Civil War (2011-2015).

Stillwater is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma and the county seat for Muskogee County. The population was 54,471 at the 2010 census, making it one of the most populous cities in Oklahoma. Stillwater has been called "The Birthplace of Oklahoma" because of its role as a center for agriculture and industry during its early years. The city's nickname is "The City of Progress." Oklahoma was founded on November 16, 1907 by men from Texas and Kansas who named it after still water in their state (now Wichita, Kansas). They were looking for a site that would provide irrigation water to help farmers with their crops. The first post office in Stillwater was established on December 1, 1907. It served the town of Stillwater until 1911 when it moved to McAlester. In 1915, Stillwater became the county seat for Muskogee County when McAlester was split into two towns: Muskogee andstillwater. In 1907-1911, there were only three buildings in downtown Stillwater - an old Methodist church (built 1892), a schoolhouse (built 1881), and an old grain elevator (which had been built in 1901). By 1920-22, there were twenty-four buildings within a five-block radius of downtown - all new since then! Downtown businesses included banks, grocery stores/mallards (the first such store west of the Mississippi River), doctor's offices/pets clinics/, automobiles/trucks/railroads etc., light Manufacturing plants like Singer Sewing Machines etc., Machine shops like Ford & Root etc., Handicrafts boutiques etc., several churches including First Baptist Church which was also home to local newspapers started up around this time including The Republican and later The Tulsa Daily Journal; nightlife began to develop with bars such as Panama Jack's being opened up along Withrow Avenue; There were also more than one dozen restaurants then serving everything from takeout to formal dining - usually chaired by one or more influential citizens... In recent years still waters civic spirit has been alive and well! A variety events have taken place throughout town promote peaceable interactions between all people regardless race color or sexual orientation... Civility is key as we strive towards becoming stronger together as Oklahomans
Oklahoma's history begins with the period of Native American occupation in the area that is now Oklahoma. The Osage people were a group of Native Americans who lived in and around present-day Oklahoma City and Tulsa during this time. In 1816, the United States acquired land west of the Arkansas River from Mexico as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This land included what is now Oklahoma. The treaty created a new nation,the United States of America, which governed parts of Mexico and Central America. As part of this new nation, Congress decided to cede most of Indian Territory to the United States in 1824. In1828, after many years of discussion, Congress approved a bill establishing Kansas as an territory separate from Indian Territory. This act made Kansas one of the first U.S. territories to be admitted into full membership in the Union as a state on January 14th, 1846. The area that is now Oklahoma was originally controlled by both Mexican and Anglo settlers during this time period. The Mexican settlers were called "Granados" or "Greater Mexicans." They were farmers who grew corn, beans, watermelons, and other vegetables for local consumption and exported these goods back to their home country at low prices to help support their families financially. The Anglos were settlers who came overland from Kentucky and Tennessee looking for land to settle in what is now Oklahoma City and Tulsa County (later Tulsa). Many Anglos started out farming but soon became involved in trade with Indians living along the Missouri River valley (now Kansas) due to their access to those resources. By 1840, about 60%of all Oklahomans were anglo-speaking Protestant civilian residents; 30%were primarily Indian terms speaking Nahuatl fluently or relying on their own interpreters
