The history of the coast guard in Shawnee, Oklahoma began with the organization of the first Coast Guard detachment in 1907. The first station in town was a small lighthouse which was destroyed by a storm in 1912. A new lighthouse was built and named for Rear Admiral Harold L. Austin, who served as the first Chief of Staff for the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1957. The name “Shawnee” is derived from an Ojibwe word meaning place where there are many cedar trees. In 1922, the Coast Guard established a Station at Fort Sill to protect shipping along the Gulf coast of Oklahoma. This station remained operational until 1959 when it was moved to McAlester and renamed Port Arthur Naval Base. In 1972, Port Arthur Naval Base became Shawnee Army Air Field and continue as such until 1990 when it reverted back to its original name of Shawnee Army Air Field. Today, the Coast Guard operates five stations throughout Shawnee: Northwest Side (Station #1), Northeast Side (Station #2), Southwest Side (Station #3), Central Park (Station #4) and Old Shanty Inn (Port Arthur Naval Base). The Coast Guard also provides support services through its Cutters program which includes providing water supply and electrical services to coastal communities across America via boat patrols and helicopters.

Shawnee is a small town in Oklahoma that is known for its cattle and agriculture. The community was founded by the Shawnee Mission Indians in 1836. It became an American Indian reservation in 1907. In 1948, Shawnee became a city and currently has a population of around 12,000 people. The town was named after James Krieger, who came to the area in 1834 with his family. Krieger built the first permanent settler's cabin in what is now Shawnee. He also developed a land grant system which gave settlers control over their own land. The town originally consisted of just a few families, but it grew rapidly due to its agricultural potential and its location on the Arkansas River. Shawnee's economy relies heavily on ranching and agriculture. The town has two large farms which produce hay, corn, beans, carrots, apples, onions, eggs and other crops. The farms are run by local farmers who have been here since before the turn of the century. These farmers care about their products very much and take great pride in helping their customers achieve success both economically and environmentally.

Shawnee was a small town in Oklahoma until the late 1800s. It is now a ghost town due to an oil pipeline that passed through it and the result of it. The town was first known as "New Shawnee" because white settlers moved into it in 1851 and named it after Shawnee, Oklahoman Chief of the Ponca Nation. The first oil well in Oklahoma was located near Shawnee and production began in 1901. The rig used for drilling became lost in a storm, but recoveries continued even though no one knew where the well could be found. By 1907, wells had been drilled all around Shawnee and production reached $10 million per year by 1910. However, when World War I started, crude oil prices plummeted due to US entry into conflict with other nations and production stopped at about $4 million per year by 1918. The population of Shawnee dwindled during this time as people were forced out of the area by hostile Native Americans or byOklahoma's devastating drought caused by over-grazing on buffalo herds. In 1925, when Interstate 40 was built through Oklahoma, it cut off access to much of what had been once Shuenanney's main industry: oilfield developments (oil rigs would eventually be developed there). With few jobs available outside of town, many residents decided to leave for good. In recent years there have been sporadic efforts to revive interest in Shawnee; some believe that if more people learn about its history then they may want to come back and live there again?
