The Sapulpa Indian Nation is a federally recognized tribe located in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. The tribe has an estimated population of only 350 people. In 1907, the tribe purchased 3,500 acres of land in western Sapulpa Township from the Coweta County Land Corporation. The tribe began to erect a few homes on the land in 1909 and erected a small school on the property in 1912. In 1916, the Sapulpa Indian Nation purchased an additional 2,000 acres of land from Pawnee Enterprises. The tribe began to erect homes and build schools on this land in 1917-1918. A large lodge was also built on this parcel of land in 1918. In 1922, the Sapulpa Indian Nation bought 1,200 acres of land from Hance & White Company for $1 million dollars. This tract included 5 miles of road and 10 miles of watercourse. The tribe began to erect homes and build schools on this land in 1923-1924. In 1928-29, the Sapulpa Indian Nation acquired 4,500 acres of reservationland from Pawnee Enterprises for $5 million dollars. This tract included 8 miles of road and 20 miles of watercourse. The tribal council began construction on several residences and schools on this tract in 1929-30 under contract with Pawnee Enterprise’s president Jethro Hance Jr.. A large new lodge was also constructed on these lands during this time period – it is now known as “The Lodge” within the Tribe’s boundaries today! Construction stopped abruptly due to World War II; however, some members have since resumed activity at “The Lodge” through various community events/programs over recent years!
Sapulpa, Oklahoma is located in the eastern part of the United States and it is bordered by Canadian provinces of Manitoba to the north and east, Kansas to the south and west, and Texas to the northwest. The population was 2,852 as of 2010 according to the American Community Survey. The town was named after an Indian chief who also lived in that area. Sapulpa was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from what is now Canada. It became a post office in 1903. In 1907, Sapulpa had a population of 593 people. In 1959, it had a population of 1,390 people. A large oil field was discovered there in 1969 and production began that year. The town has since experienced economic decline due to its proximity to other cities and petroleum production sites throughout Oklahoma City. However, there are several businesses which have managed to remain open during this time period including a hospital, two restaurants/bars, four churches/synagogues, three banks/cafes/conveniences stores etc., which have helped keep some stability for residents over the years despite various challenges faced by the community such as being one of only two towns in Oklahoma City with no high school or college within walking distance which made getting around difficult; however these days many young adults attend nearby schools or universities so this does not appear to be an issue any longer
