The base conducts a variety of operations, including air-to-air refueling and nuclear deterrence patrols. Sapulpa is a small town in Logan County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,825 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in Sapulpa was made by American Indians on May 8, 1881 when they were asked to come and help with building the new post office. The name of the town was chosen by residents as it sounded like a "sapping sound." The first postmaster was Mrs. Fannie Hinton and she served for one year. The town's history began with white settlers coming to Sapulpa in 1904 to prospect for oil wells. There were several early businesses in Sapulpa including a general store, bakery, livery stable and hotel. In 1915, Sapulpa had its own school district and in 1929 it became an independent city Limits town under the jurisdiction of Logan County authorities. In 1954, Sapulpa had its own water system which still functions today. A few years later it also had its own police department which continues to this day! In 1984 (the same year that Tulsa metro area lost its autonomy), Sapulpha annexed Anadarko Township which included most of what is now known as east Tulsa City limits

It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. The town was laid out on a floodplain east of the Arkansas River and named for Captain John Fenton's party that discovered it in 1887. By 1907, Sapulpa had become an important railway junction with settlements to the west and southeast. In 1916, a general store and post office were built; both have since been demolished. In 1936, Sapulpa High School opened; it has since been closed and replaced by Sapulpa Middle School. As of 2000, Sapulpa had one small business listed as its sole source of revenue: a daycare service that provides educational opportunities for children aged 0-14 years old
