In 1945, after Japan's surrender, Canton became occupied by American forces and underwent significant renovations that included new housing developments and a post office building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright himself. After Japan's defeat, Canton reverted back to its original name: Sand Springs. Today, while not as active as it once was with regards to military activity (due largely to budget cuts), Canton is still home to numerous historical museums including the United States Military Academy Museum located within Homestead AFB; Fort Sill National Cemetery; and OK State Fairgrounds Arsenal Complex which includes twoArmories (one dating back to 1889) as well as five agricultural buildings dating back to 1915 that are now used for commercial purposes (eagerly awaiting renovation).
