After a few years, they decided to open their own business and renamed it the Dohm&Köhler Coffee Shop. In 1907, Wilhelm Dohm passed away and his wife became the owner of the business. She continued to run it until her death in 1950. In 1949, August Köhler passed away and his wife became the new owner of the business. She continued to run it until her death in 1978. Throughout its history, the Dohm&Köhler Coffee Shop has been known for its delicious cup of coffee! Ponca City is a city in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 905 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Muskogee County after Norman. Ponca City is located on the Arkansas River and it straddles both banks of the river. The downtown area includes a large library, several businesses, and two schools. The first settlers in Ponca City were members of the Pawnee Indian tribe from Kansas who arrived there in 1867. They named their community Ponca because they had seen a long prairie near modern-day Ponca City that resembled an Omaha ( Nebraska ) hatchet handle. The town was platted in 1871 by Jno. Sorenson and Wm. Bickerton as part of the new Tulsa Territory which became Oklahoma when Lincoln became its governor on February 14, 1907. In 1916, during World War I, Ponca City served as headquarters for First Army Corps Area A under General John Pershing while other parts of Muskogee County took up arms to help fight against German forces invading America through Mexico. After the war ended and with no troops left stationed in Oklahoma, Ponca City reverted back to its original name of "Ponca". In 1951, when Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) expanded into all but Oklahoma County due to growing population concerns, the then-unincorporated portion of Muskogee County including Poncacity was transferred to Tulsa MSA along with much of northeastern Osage County including Lawton Heights and many other small towns within that area since those areas were not included within Tulsa MSA boundaries until after 1984 whenOklahoma statehood gave those areas their own municipal status which lasted until 1997 when all but Lawton Heights were annexed into Tulsa MSA again effective January 1st . On October 12th 1978 one day before United Airlines Flight 549 crashed into fields outside Wichita Falls killing all 253 passengers and crew on board; this crash would be known as "the worst aviation disaster ever" until another such tragedy occurred less than three years later with Air Canada Flight 814 which crashed into marshlands just outside Wichita Falls during takeoff runway 29L on December 17th , 1988 killing all 137 passengers and crew on board
