Owasso, Oklahoma is a small town located in the state of Oklahoma. The population was 3,853 at the 2010 census. Owasso is located east of Tulsa and west of McAlester. It is bordered by Ottawa County to the north, Muskogee County to the east, Upson County to the south and Wagoner County to the west. The first people that lived in what is now Owasso were Native Americans who were already living there when European settlers arrived in 1859. The first Europeans that came to Owasso were white men from Kentucky who named it "Owasso" after their home state. The first store in Owasso was opened by John Hodge in 1865. In 1868, Henry Aiken built a cabin on land he bought from the Pawnees. He called it "Harmony Grove." In 1870, Charles Goodyear sold his land near present-day Douglas for $1,000 cash and moved his family into what is now downtown Owasso. In 1881, an oil well was drilled on land that now includes much of downtown Owasso and several other neighborhoods. This led to local businesses starting up and creating jobs for locals during this time period. One such business was J L Gibbs & Sons stores which opened up in 1886 until 1984 when it merged with Kmart Stores Company effective November 1st 1986). During this time period too many businesses closed down because of competition from larger companies like Kmart or Sears Roebuck which had increased prices on goods while also expanding their stores internationally (Kmart Stores eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011). However, homegrown businesses like those owned by Charles Goodyear continue to thrive today thanks to the support of local residents and businesses alike!

Owasso is a small town located in Oklahoman county, about 20 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. Owasso was founded by the Ojibwe people in 1875 and has been an important center of Indian culture for more than 100 years. The town is home to the Owasso Museum, which preserves Owasso's history and culture. The first immigrants to the area were the Shawnee people, who arrived in 1837. The Shawnee were a powerful tribe that had influence throughout central Oklahoma. They traded with other tribes and built trade routes that connected the Great Lakes region with western Kansas and Mexico. In 1875, traders from Dodge City discovered oil pockets near what is now Owasso. This led to the founding of OWASSO Oil Field by John Denton and his partners Harry Aiken and Wm. Smedley on October 8, 1875. The oil field prospered until it was destroyed by a fire in 1901. However, OWASSO's economy continued to grow until World War II when petrol rationing caused many businesses to close their doors. The town's population fell during this time but has slowly recovered since then thanks to its strong economy and cultural heritage. Today, OWASSO remains an important center for Indian culture as well as economic development due to its location within easy reach of Tulsa and Oklahoma Citys metropolitan areas. The museum offers demonstrations of traditional Native American life as well as exhibits on local history and culture- making it one of the most visited tourist attractions in OKC County!
Owasso was founded in 1865 by the Washita Indian tribe. The town became a post-office in 1868, and a city in 1902. In 1907, Owasso hosted the first Oklahoma State Fair.
