Owasso is a town in Haskell County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 5,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Owasso was founded in 1907 by settlers from Arkansas and Louisiana. The first known settler in Owasso was Hiram Overstreet and his family who came overland from Arkansas in early 1907. They started a log cabin on what is now the town square and named it "Overstreet's Bluff". The Overstreets left Owasso after two years because they could not find enough land to live on and were afraid of Indians. In 1916, a man by the name of George Hargrave settled down in Owasso with his family. He brought over 2,000 acres (8 km²) of land to build new homes around what is now downtown Owasso. In 1922, he donated another tract of land to the town for use as public school property which later became the present day University Center Campus

The IJN then turned its attention towards Guam where more than seventy US merchant vessels had been sunk since 1853 as part of an effort by Admiral Dewey to control sea lanes in order to support Pacific operations against China. In addition thereto many US marines died while fighting this battle for independence from Japan
