The USAF deployed gift history in 1948. The first gifts were purchased by the Air Force from private sellers and delivered to the bases. Gifts became an important part of military culture and tradition. In 1952, Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay called for a gift history campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the USAF. He recommended that all deploying units send a gift each year to celebrated events or groups on base. The Air Force sent out over 1,000 gifts between 1952 and 1957. In 1958, the USAF changed its birthday celebration from National Day to Veterans Day in order to more honor service members who had come before them. To commemorate this event, the Air Force organized a Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Gift Collection drive which collected over $750,000 in donations from commanders and soldiers across America. This was significant because it showed that people cared about military culture and tradition within the USAF. Owasso, Oklahoma is a small town in eastern Oklahoma that was once the center of the cotton industry. The town was founded in 1907 by J.G. Bowen and his family. Owasso became an important railway junction in the early days of the Oklahoma Territory, and its economy was based on agriculture and cattle ranching. In World War II, Owasso played a significant role as an airfield for the United States Army Air Forces during Operation Crossroads, which aimed to destroy Japanese targets in central America. After the war, Owasso experienced a period of growth as a result of defense ties with Japan and other countries. However, economic decline began to take hold in the 1990s and 2000s due to changes in distribution patterns within the local community and outside investment opportunities. In recent years, Owasso has made some progress through redevelopment efforts but remains Struggling to remain an economically vibrant community In 1907, JG Bowen founded Owasso on land owned by his father-in-law John Wimbley. The town rapidly became an important rail junction due to its location at the intersection of two major routes serving Central Oklahoma: Kansas City Southern Railroad's West Line (now I-40) and US Highway 66 (now US 281). The town's success as a transportation hub led to it becoming an agricultural center with many farmers exporting their products directly to Chicago or other Midwest cities. By 1920, Owasso had over 1,000 residents who were involved in farming, cattle ranching, manufacturing (including livestock feed), retail trade, banking and tourism. The post-World War II boom phase for Owasso started around 1946 when it became home to several large defense contractors including Phillips 66 Corporation; Lockheed Martin Company; Raytheon Company; McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Division; Hughes Aircraft Company; UTECH Laboratories Inc.; Ford Motor Company’sáníkářiexportační divadlo ("Export Department") dealership – all located within one mile of each other across Elm Street from what is now First Baptist Church . During this time period there were waves of new immigrants from various parts of Russia*, China*, Yugoslavia* etc., flooding into Western Oklahoma looking for work after the war ended - many settling near Tulsa where they could buy food stamps* or get free housing*. ManyOWASSOS came out during this era with their own "little Russian Block" complete with their own grocery stores*, churches* etc.* This period also saw growth in nightlife thanks largely to liquor sales conducted at dance halls along Elm Street * later moving uptown into larger buildings along Third Avenue which still serve as marketplaces today*. These types of venues helped spur further development throughout downtown OWASSO while concurrently drawing attention away from more established commercial districts such as Fourth Avenue.. However by 1970 most businesses had either closed or moved out due to competition from new stores opening up elsewhere(*petroleum refinery opened nearby then), changing everything again back into agriculture until 2002 when people woke up once again realize how much Potential OWASTO had yet untapped! This gave rise againto Downtown revitalization efforts spearheaded by Mayor Tom Hargrave who spearheads several city wide projects such as art galleries/museums/restaurants/light show production company etc... currently keeping downtown alive through monthly events like Oklahoman Arts Night
The Owasso area was first settled by the Cheyenne, Arapaho and Kiowa in the late 1830s. The region became part of the United States in 1907 when Oklahoma Territory was created from parts of Kansas and Texas. The town of Owasso was founded in 1910 by residents of Wichita, Kansas. There were also small settlements near present-day Tulsa and Edmond, Oklahoma. In 1936, the state of Oklahoma passed a bill to rename all counties within Oklahoma Territory after Native American leaders who had fought for Indian independence during the American Revolution. The bill went into effect on January 1, 1937. The new name honored Chief Crazy Horse, MajorSequoyah and other Indian fighters during the 18th century Battle of Lake Erie against British forces.
