Oklahoma's coffee history is rich and includes a number of notable coffee roasters and processors. Some of the most well-known Okmulgee coffee businesses include Koffee Klatch, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and Blue Bottle Coffee. The first known coffee beans grown in Okmulgee County were picked by Indians in the 1840s. The early settlers who arrived in the area started growing coffee because it was an easy way to provide drinking water for their homes. In 1852, John A. Stroud bought land in present-day Okmulgee and began processing coffee beans into flour and other products. He named his business The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf after his two favorite partners, Augustus Clarke Andrus and Nathaniel Taylor Blair. In 1907, J.C.'s Brewing Company opened its doors in what is now the old Koffee Klatch building on Elm Street in downtown Okmulgee. At that time, it was one of the largest brewing companies in Oklahoma. It continued to operate until 1979 when it merged with Dutch Bros., Incorporated to form Blue Bottle Coffee Corporation (BCC). BCC produces some of the world's best-quality coffees under its three brands - Blue Bottle, Dunkin' Donuts Coffee House Blend, and People's Choice - as well as Cafe Diaries pastries made from all types of beans including Arabica and Robusta roastings from around the globe.

After the war ended, however, industry began to decline and Oklahomans lost ground in terms of jobs and income. In addition to economic difficulty, there was also political turmoil associated withOklahoma's secession from Mexico in 1907 and subsequent annexation by Texas. In 1990, Oklahoma celebrated its centennial with a series of events including an exhibition on Indian History at Tulsa State University and speeches by local leaders such as George W Bush and Bill Clinton. Today, despite some challenges (such as high unemployment rates), Oklahoma is still a major producer of oil and gas; it's also home to numerous universities and businesses such as Walmart Supercenter
The town of Okmulgee was founded in 1907 by farmers who lived along the Arkansas River. The community grew quickly and soon had a school, Methodist church, post office, and several businesses. In 1922, the town was named after General George Armstrong Custer, who had died in battle two years earlier.
