The United States Air Force has a rich airforce history in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The first squadron was organized at the airports in this city on November 1, 1947. It was called the 343rd Fighter Squadron and it flew P-51 Mustangs. The Second World War saw an increase in the number of fighter squadrons within the USAF and by 1951 there were seven fighter squadrons in Tulsa alone. In Okmulgee, these units operated Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters which became famous for their speed and firepower. In 1957, the 5th Tactical Wing (5 TFW) was activated to provide aerial refueling support for tactical aircraft operating over Korea during the Korean War. This unit became known as "Oklahoma City Air National Guard" and it continued to fly Lockheed F-4 Phantom IIs until its disbandment in 1990. From 1946 until 1990, Tulsa conducted daily military auctions off surplus military equipment from various countries stationed in or visiting Tulsa at Aviation Hall Airport including American planes, British planes and French planes among others. These auctions served as a fundraiser for local charities such as St Vincent’s Hospital which provided free health care to veterans throughout America during this time period. Today, Okmulgee is home to four active USAF Wings; two of them are assigned to RAF base Lakenheath where they conduct operations comprising flying CF-18 Hornet Hornets into RAF Tornado strikes against ISIS targets across Syria etc – while another wing conducts rotations with Italian AF Migliaio d’Espresso jets conducting airshows over Rome etc., making it one of largest international airspace presence of any US city outside of major metropolitan areas like New York City or Washington D C . World War II: On November 1st 1947 3rd Fighter Squadron 67 Sqdn PC arrived at Tulsa Municipal Airport after being transferred from Alameda NAS (Alaska). At that time only civilians could own or operate airplanes so all pilots were enlisted men drawn from Tulsa Hqdrt/Aerospace Museum Auxiliary detachment #1 thru #8 who also manned radar direction finders for photo reconnaissance missions when needed

The Oklahoma Air National Guard's (OANA) 1st Squadron, 129th Fighter Wing was activated on July 10, 1942 as the 5th Fighter Group. The squadron flew Lockheed P-38 Lightning aircraft equipped with retractable landing gear and a powerful armament of six .50 caliber machine guns and two 20mm cannon. The squadron was redesignated the 129th Fighter Squadron on October 2, 1942 as part of Major General James E. "Jimmy" Mattis' command of Ninth Air Force. On February 9, 1945 the squadron converted to F-51 Mustang jets and was assigned to Tenth Air Force in Japan which was leading United States Forces in World War II. After World War II ended the AAF disbanded on September 3, 1946 with the 1st Squadron being re-designated as the 129th Fighter Squadron again effective October 2nd 1946. In 1949 OANA activated their own flying school at McAlester AFB known as The Flying Tigers School Of Aviation located next to Don Armstrong USAAF Base Headquarters which served students until 1958 when it closed due to budget cuts by USAF during Cold War years when fighter planes were all from one type only!

Air Force Airpower Museum has a rich history of air power gift giving. The museum has been Giving Airpower Gifts for over 50 years! In 1969, the Air Force Academy cadet corps provided the first air power gifts to the museum. Cadets donated two McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter jets and four AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. These gifts were in memory of Lt. Gen. James L. Evers (Ret.) who had died in a flying accident just weeks earlier while serving as Commander, United States Fifth Fleet at Japan’s Hatsuka Base. Since then, the Air Force Airpower Museum has given away more than seventy air power gifts including: UH-1 Iroquois helicopters; A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft; AH-64 Apache helicopter gunships; KC-135 Stratotanker tanker planes; MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles; F/A-18 Hornet fighters and Sea Harriers. In 1839, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered new land to the north which became known as Santa Fe County after General Santa Fe (1786-1846), one of America's most successful military commanders during Mexican War (1846-48). Santa Fe County was established on October 14, 1839 when Ulysses S. Grant published an proclamation creating it within Allegany County along with Haskell County on December 1st following his victory at Palo Alto over Mexican general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna on October 13th nearpresent day Tulsa Creek/Cherokee Nation Lake bed east of present day Fort Gibson/Norman County line north of present day Jenning Station Road NE/west side of Indian River Alligator Hills National Wildlife Refuge
