The first Europeans to visit what is now Oklahoma City were Spanish explorers in 1540 who named it Ciudad de México. It was not until 1836 that Indian traders founded what became known as Fort Gibson at an intersection of present-day Pawnee Boulevard and Washita Road. The site had been under consideration by Major James Kiefer for years before he selected it as his new military post after his victory at Buena Vista in 1825. The fort served as both garrison town and trading center for Native Americans throughout its existence; during most of this time, Fort Gibson was also the only white settlement in what is now OKC County. In 1846, following Trail of Tears led by Chief Osage Yellow Jacket, settlers began arriving from Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and other states via land purchases fromthe Creek Nation; by 1850, Oklahomans had laid out their own streets and erected their own homespun courthouse within sight of Fort Gibson. In 1907–08 American president William McKinley visited OKC while on his way to campaign against then-Ulysses S Grant; McKinley saw Oklahomans working on improving infrastructure projects such as streetlights and drains in downtown areas which he praised for their "extraordinary dash". During World War II shortages caused many businesses to close down or move out; however, OKC experienced significant growth when production kicked into high gear at nearby Lockheed Aircraft plants during the post-war boom period that followed World War II involvement in Europe and Asia%. From 1945 through 1970s growth slowed somewhat due to technological advances such as automobiles but resumed during the late 1980s with Tulsans taking control of various business establishments including software companies such as Microsoft and Adobe Systems In recent years there has been an increase in crime rates although overall crime rates have decreased since 2007 according to FBI statistics . There has also been an effort made by local government officials called "City Shield" which provides security services for areas around downtown including bars/restaurants/nightclubs etcetera

It operates more than 100 bases all over the world. The USAF is responsible for many important activities in the defense of America and its allies. The USAF gift history can be traced back to World War II when the United States government formed a military branch called the Army Air Forces (AAF). The AAF was made up of planes and pilots from civilian organizations like airlines and shipping companies. In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation creating an independent air force led by General Dwight Eisenhower. This new air force was known as Tactical Air Command (TAC). TAC became operational on July 6, 1945 when Boeing 747s arrived at Langley AFB in Virginia to begin operations under TAC’s command. In 1949, TAC became Central American Air Command (C-AACC) which directed strategic bombing campaigns against Fidel Castro’s Cuba during the Cold War era. On October 3, 1957, General Curtis LeMay announced that United States Strategic bombers were no longer needed in Europe because he believed that Soviet missiles were threatening America’s security instead. As a result of this decision, Tactical Air Command was disbanded and its assets were reassigned to various other commands within US armed forces including Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), European Aerospace Defense Command (EADC), and Middle EastAir Force (MEAF). Inactivated on December 15th 1959 while its member commands changed their name again to Continental Commands: Atlantic Missile Wing(AMW), Pacific Missile Wing(PMW), Southeast Asia Aerospace Defense Command(SEAUDC), On May 20th 1961 Headquarters U S A AF activated First Lieutenant Carl Spaatz as Deputy Commander Ninth AF with responsibility for all AMC programs worldwide except Vietnam where Major General John McCain assumed command until his retirement effective September 30th 1969
