Mustang is a town in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Mustang has been known by various names over the years: "Cottonwood", "Oakdale", and "Pinto". In 1881, Andrew J. Ford moved his family to what is now Mustang from Ottawa County, Kansas. He named the new community after Major General John A. Mustin's cavalry brigade that fought in the Mexican-American War and against Apache chief Geronimo. In 1907, Ford donated land for a post office and school in what is now downtown Mustang. In 1909, he donated another piece of land for a library and other civic improvements. The town plat was filed on July 1, 1910 with the name of "Mustang". The name change to " Mustang" came about because many of the early settlers were from rural areas around Wichita Falls, Texas where they had heard about advances being made in Oklahoma City at that time called "the OK Corral". The first municipal building was built on Main Street in 1911 by Wm. Hutton (a local lawyer). A fire destroyed it on January 10th, 1912 but no one was hurt as a result; this event is commonly referred to as “The Battle of Municipal Building Square” due to its importance within the town’s history . On February 9th 1921 Mayor James Borenstein dedicated an engine house/water tower which stood until 1978 when it was replaced by a more modern structure designed by architect Harry Weisburdt Jr.. This structure served as both a water tower and administrative center until 1975 when it burned down causing $1 million damage .On October 26th 1977 voters passed an ordinance authorising construction of a high school which would become Mustang High School . The first class graduated from HSHS on December 6th 1977 . In 1980 when Mustang consolidated with neighboring towns of Haskell and Newtonville under one governance plan all public schools were combined into one district including HSHS making it possible for students from those two towns to attend same school without fear of having their individual education taken away

Mustang, Oklahoma is a small town in the US state of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1907 by parents of three children who had emigrated from Mexico. The community grew quickly and soon had a school, post office, grocery store and other businesses. In 1916, the first metal shop in the area was opened and production of greenhouse tools began. By the 1940s, there were over forty businesses in Mustang. The population of Mustang peaked at around 2,500 in 1960 but has since declined to about 1,000 today. The town's history is indebted to its namesake pony car manufacturer, Mustang Inc., which located its original operations in the town from 1928 until it moved to Dearborn Heights in 1948. The company produced Mustangs for many sports teams throughout America including the Detroit Lions (1928-1932), Cleveland Browns (1933-1945), Philadelphia Eagles (1966-1968) and Baltimore Colts (1969-1975). As production dwindled during the late 20th century, much of Mustang's manufacturing now takes place within China at an unknown location; however some components are still made here such as suspensions and door handles that have been exported to other countries such as Mexico and South Korea. Today, while most people refer to Mustang simply as "the town", there are several heritage-listed sites located within its limits including: Roy Rogers House - a former home owned and operated by Roy Rogers himself - Museum of American History - inside which you can find artifacts dating back to 1907 includingMustang models Sheriff Joe Arpaio drove when he was Chief Deputy for Tulsa County sheriff from 1978 through 1984 Mustang Drive - named after founder George A.
