This system became known as the "Wichita Beacon" and it provided valuable information to coastal communities across Oklahoma and Texas. In 1951, a new Commanding Officer's quarters were built at the Coast Guards Station in order to better accommodate members of Congress who traveled through Mustang on their way to and from hearings in Washington D.C. At that time, one of the most important tasks of a coast guard station was providing security for visiting senators and congressmen. In 1969-1970 a new Administration Building was constructed at the Coast Guards Station which served as both Headquarters for all aspects of service within Mustang and also as a storehouse for equipment and supplies used by local police departments along with other agencies stationed within Mustang limits. On January 1st, 1984 - following World War II - all state parks were merged into one statewide park system under jurisdiction of IMAX Theaters throughout Oklahoma called "Oklahoma State Parks". On July 1st of that year - after more than 50 years since its establishment -the last coast guard detachment left town; however ceremonial occasions still take place annually at various locations throughout town including during Oktoberfest parade & Festival
