The Air Force has a long and proud history in Mustang, Oklahoma. The unit was formed on July 1, 1947 as the 351st Bombardment Wing. The wing served in numerous campaigns throughout the Korean War and Vietnam War. In 1969, the wing became an all-weather interceptor squadron and flew Boeing 727 aircraft into battle against hostile forces in Southeast Asia. Today, the 351st BG remains one of the most decorated units in the Air Force with more than 5,000 decorations and awards earned during its time as a part of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and other related missions. The USAF flies more planes than any other branch of the US military. One of the most significant aspects of USAF culture is its sense of community. Officers and enlisted members from all branches participate in a variety of activities, including officer Candidate School (OCS), unit deployments, joint exercises, and aircraft maintenance ceremonies. These events provide officers with an opportunity to learn about their fellow service members and share common experiences. The Mustang Air Force Base gift history began in 1959 when the USAF bought a number of surplus Mustangs from the Ford Motor Company. The base first used these cars for transportation and then for training pilots and aircrews. In 1964, the USAF decided to give these cars away as rewards for heroism or bravery during military operations. From then on, each year, the Wing made a donation to an organization chosen by the pilot/aircrew member who received the car. This gave rise to the name "Wing Day." In 1992, a new gift program was started at Mustang AFB named "Gift of Life." This program allows personnel and their families to receive a car or motorcycle from one of our squadron members in memory of someone they have lost during military service. Today, Mustang AFB has several different gift programs which allow its citizens and visitors to express their appreciation for all that we do here at our base. These programs include: -WingDay - A special event where we make a donation to an organization chosen by an aircrew/pilot who receives a car as part of their Wing Day reward -Gift of Life - A program allowing personnel and their families to receive a car or motorcycle from one squadron member in memory of someone they have lost during military service -Operation Goodwill Ambassador - A program which allows us to provide free fuel and parking vouchers to local businesses in honor of deployed troops
Mustang, Oklahoma is a small town in the eastern United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. Mustang County was organized on November 15, 1907, and named for General James H. Mustang, who had been general in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and fought in World War I as an American colonel. The county seat and largest city were Okmulgee until 1907 when they were transferred to nearby Jenks because Jenks had more people. The first post office in Mustang was established on December 15, 1887. In 1907, following the consolidation of several townships into that county (including Jenks), Okmulgee became its new county seat; it retained this role until 1959 when Tulsa City took over that responsibility. As one ofOklahoma's rural counties – located mostly within Tornado and Haskell Counties – Mustang experienced only modest growth until after World War II when oil discoveries began to make significant contributions to overall economic development throughout much of the state. However, although oil production continued to play a major role throughout most of these years (eventually leading to increased populations and business opportunities), other types of economic development increasingly took center stage beginning in earnest around 1970 as telephone service became available statewide (and then nationalized following Watergate). This period saw a dramatic increase in both population density and business activity as businesses ventured out from their original locations near transportation hubs like Tulsa or Checotah; instead they opened up shop throughout greater Tulsa or northwestern Oklahoma while still retaining some degree of independence downtown: establishments such as Sam’s Club acquired chains like Best Buy just outside those regions starting about this time which continue through present day;[2] thus despite rapid population growth across all cores since 1970 much rural oklahomans have not seen corresponding real estate changes or increased access to essential services but rather have simply seen an erosion of their traditional fabric due largely to suburbanization/urban sprawl well beyond their reach thereby exacerbating many common socio-economic issues facing today’s rural residents."

Mustang was founded in 1907 as a small town in Haskell County, Oklahoma. The name of the town may come from the Mustang horse breed, which is said to be one of the first horses to be bred in this area. The town grew rapidly during World War II and by 1955 it had reached its current population of over 3000 people. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, much of what is now Mustang was used as a cattle ranching area. Today, most of the land that once belonged to the ranching industry has been developed into small towns and villages around Mustang. One important aspect of Mustang's history is its role as an air force base during World War II. From 1942-1945, Mustang played a significant role in helping Nazi Germany make their way to victory against Allied forces. In addition, it was also home to one of America's first nuclear plants, which operated from 1957-1964. Despite these contributions to Mustang's past, many residents are still unaware of its importance within local history. Therefore, I would like to offer my readers a short overview about Mustang before getting started on my paper about it today. Mustang began life as a small community located just outside Haskell called Addison Springs (later renamed after nearby Attalla). The post office opened in 1907 and served until 1914 when it moved eastward to where it currently stands at 9th Street and US 287 (just west of US 87). There were only two schools open in 1907- Addison Springs Elementary School serving grades 1-4 and Poteatt High School for grades 5-8; both were closed by 1915 due to lackOf resources combined with an influx of new students coming from Wichita Falls (then known as Ft Worth) via Oklahoma City buses! On July 15th 1908Pete Smith set out on his Pony Express journey across country delivering mail between Wichita Falls and Tulsa allowing passengers $5 per trip! On November 3rd 1908 Edmond Hennessee became the first person everto ride into Haskell County on horseback when he deputed ridden by Roy Nichols out from Tulsa at 8 PM! After years OF failed attempts at establishing a post office within town limits, Mr Fenton took noteof this new developmentand established one on December 12th 1912 at 6 N Main Street! In 1916 Mrs Lillie Bigham opened her lending library near 2nd Street & Elkhorn Avenue which continues operations today! Immediately following World War I there was an enormous growthin Mustangs due TO increased migrations OF farmers seeking economic stability after WAR saw many millions Of dollars invested nationally AND internationally!! Many people who had grown up listeningTO stories about cowboy fighting ON horseback turned intoactual cowboys themselves thru hounding OF law enforcement Officials trying TO stop them!! Located less than 10 miles FROMOklahoma CITY ALLOWING easy access TO all aspectsOF THE STATE DUE TO TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS FOR AIR CATTLE PRODUCTION!! It wasn't until 1945 THAT THE U S AIR FORCE REALIZED MUSTANG WAS AN IMPORTANT BASE IN OKLAHOMA AND DECIDED TO MAKE IT THEIR PLACE OF OPERATION !! Since then Mustangs have continued To play important roles IN our state INCLUDINGsupportING OUR DEFENSE AS A COUNTRY AGAINST TERRORISM !! Without mustangs We WOULDN'T BE HERE TODAY!!!
