Moore was founded on December 12, 1887 by George Moore and his wife, Lillie. At first, it was just a small farming community with only 10 residents. In 1907, Moore became an independent city with a population of 100. The city became a county seat in 1912 and has since been enlarged several times with an annexing process that has resulted in its current size of 97 square miles (247 square kilometers). George Moore was born on December 12th, 1887 in Muskogee County near present day Tulsa, OK to Samuel and Susannah (Walsh) Moore. Gertrude Elizabeth (née Haskell) married George on December 24th 1916 while they were living in Moore. They had two children: son John Wesley Jr., who died as an infant; daughter Barbara Kapp who married Forrest Pogue III on October 30th 1975; and son-in-law Donald Jantz who married her sister Betsy upon their marriage on March 2nd 1978. George served as Mayor of Muskogee from 1949 to 1959 and then as Oklahoma State Auditor from 1959 to 1967 before he retired from office due to health concerns including diabetes mellitus which he battled for many years until he succumbed to the condition at age 92 on October 3rd, 1999 after being awarded $1 million dollars for his work with the disease by Governor Cleta Jackson during her last year in office prior to becoming President Clinton’s Secretary of Health & Human Services Lillie Mae Morse also served as Mayor from 1957 through 1961 before she passed away at age 86 following a long battle with multiple sclerosis which caused physical damage over time that required extensive rehabilitation thereafter until her death at home on November 14th 2003 The family moved back into their original farmstead where they continue to live today except for one addition: A playground/shrine dedicated to their late son John Wesley Jr.. The Maroses also operate a museum adjacent to their home called “John Wesley” which tells the history of their son’s life both inside and outside of schoolboyhood; along with artifacts related thereto including memorabilia from his boyhood basketball games against local bully Lamar High School that are open daily from 9am-3pm Admission is free!

Ishmael Moore died in 1911, but his son John Worthy Moore continued to operate the business until his death in 1945. His grandson, Floyd J. "Floyd" Moore also operated the store until its closing in 1984. The museum opened in 1989 and is open every day except Saturday during school hours (9 am to 4 pm). The cemetery contains more than 350 graves dating back to 1889. Museum admission is free for all visitors over 12 years old specializing in history or culture; however there are some charges for programs such as docent led tours or specialty exhibits dealing with specific topics within history and culture.
