Moore, Oklahoma is a small city in the state of Oklahoma. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Muskogee County seat and lies on the eastern border of Muskogee County by US-61. Moore is located on the fringes of oil fields that have been central to its economy for decades. The region was first populated in 1867 when Civil War veterans returned to what is now Muskogee County after serving in Arkansas and Missouri. They built log cabins near present-day Moore and other settlements until white men began arriving in significant numbers in the late 19th century to drill for oil and gas near wells discovered near Tulsa, Oklahoma Territory. By 1907, there were more than 100 businesses in town with a payroll over $10,000 annualized. The growth of petroleum production led to increased development around Moore – including an Urban Farm district (now commercial property), apartment complexes and shopping malls developed during the 1990s post-9/11 period as well as new subdivisions since 2000 called "Oklahoma City Hills." However, many residents remain largely rural while major employers have moved away or closed their doors: Only 2% of workers are employed within downtown streetside businesses; 38% work outside DowntownMoore; and only 15% report being self-employed or contractually contracted out across all industries studied here. As such, although Mundelein Township has experienced population growth (from 3 people per square mile at 2000 Census to 10 people per square mile as of 2010) inside boundaries defined by "DowntownMoore" - it has not seen any real inward growthownthe core business districts - annexation into neighboring townships notwithstanding As one recent resident put it: "I'm just living my life... I don't know if I want to leave because we've always depended on these old guys [the oil companies] doing this kind of thing so we can't do anything about it now."

Moore, Oklahoma was founded on November 1, 1907 by Willard Moore and his brother-in-law, German Wilhelm Kieft. The town sprang up around a small trading post that the brothers had established at the mouth of the Washita River. The post served as a stop for travelers on their way to Wichita and other settlements in central Oklahoma. In 1911, when land was donated by Colonel George Rogers Clark, Moore became its first mayor.
