The history of Miami, Oklahoma can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first permanent settler in what is now Miami was David Hays, who built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River in 1824. For many years, Miami was a peaceful and agricultural town, but it began to experience rapid growth around 1830 when gold was discovered in Mexico City. By 1836, Miami had become one of the most important trading towns in the area and its population had reached over 1,000 people. At that time, Miami was known as “the Promised Land” because it had been promised by President James K. Polk during his campaign for president in 1848. After discovering gold at Sutter's Mill on October 24, 1849, Mexican authorities began raiding American settlers throughout central Mexico for treasure seeking to justify their claim to sovereignty over all of Mexico-western America. As a result of these raids and the Panic of 1850 (a result of low prices for silver), many small farmers and ranchers abandoned their homes and businesses in search of new opportunities. In response to this situation, David Hays founded TheMiami Bank & Trust Company on December 11th, 1850. The bank soon became successful and played an important role in helping to revive failing local economies during the period before national economic stimulus programs were established in 1951-1953 under Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman respectively. In 1860s Miami experienced another large influx of immigrants when Union forces invaded Texas during the Civil War; however no permanent settlement occurred until 1865 when General Edwin Payne established Fort McIntosh on Key Biscayne Boulevard near Northwest First Street as part of an effort to secure supplies for Confederate troops opposing Union forces operating from Ulysses S Grant's military base at Fort Donelson south of Memphis Tennessee (see map below). During Reconstruction following the end of World War II white flight from newly desegregated America led by Governor John Connally relocated hundreds more black Americans – including many soldiers who remained stationed at Ft Donelson – to Miami while also initiating social changes which included integration into local government structures along with educational opportunities for blacks not just within Tampa but also outside Broward County public schools as well as establishment Of inner-city community development corporations headed by black entrepreneurs such as Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., Al Sharpton etc.) Before long there were concentrations OF black people inhabiting nearly every major city corridor throughout Florida except Pensacola where all African Americans were forced into segregated housing districts known as "Negro Ghettos" until after Hurricane Andrew struck late 1992 destroying most or all such areas across much present day South Florida

In the 1940s, Miami moved to Tulsa and it became an even smaller town with only around 100 people. In the 1950s, Miami grew again and it had a population of around 500 people. In the 1960s, Miami moved to Edmond and it became an even smaller town with only around 60 people. In the 1970s, Miami moved to Shawnee Mission and it became an even smaller town with only around 30 people. By the end of the 1970s, Miami had declined in size and its population was down to just 10 people. However, by the 1980s,Miami had grown again and its population had reached over 200 people.
