The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the community of Miami, Oklahoma in 2003. The gift was an air force base-issued helicopter. The helicopter served as a donation to the local Boys and Girls Club and was donated by Colonel David Crippen, USAF (Ret). The Miami-Oklahoma Bicentennial Celebration Committee organized a fundraiser for the club in order to purchase the helicopter. More than $4,000 was raised from individuals and businesses inMiami-Oklahoma during the event. In addition, donations were made to both St Vincent’s Hospital and Oklahoma Children’s Hospital during the celebration. Now in its 10th year, the Miami-Oklahoma Bicentennial Celebration Committee continues its tradition of giving back to the community with donations from members of the military/airforce community. This year’s donation is an F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet that will be used by Air Mobility Command Headquarters at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for flying training exercises. The plane is being donated by Colonel James Hartsfield Jr., USAF (Ret) who is serving as commander of AIMCHQ Fort Worth at this time. This type of aircraft has been used extensively throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and has played an important role in many successful Missions including providing vital support to coalition forces on ground while also conducting strikes against terrorist targets inside Iraq and Afghanistan

On Dec. 5, the Miami-Dade County Air Force Deployed Gift History program presented a holiday gift to two airmen from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The men received gifts of deployed items from the Florida Air National Guard and the Tulsa Aeronautics Commission.

The United States Air Force (USAF) has a long history of deploying gift baskets to commemorate special occasions. The USAF's first gift basket deployment was in 1961, when a shipment of chocolates and flowers arrived at Randolph AFB, Texas. Since then, the USAF has sent out gifts on an annual basis, typically sending one or more baskets to base personnel and their families. Some of the most well-known Gift Baskets include those sent to members of the U.S. Congress in honor of Memorial Day, or during other major holidays; or those send out to units stationed around the world as part of military international exchange programs. In recent years, however, there have been several deployments that have generated worldwide attention: The Deployed Gifting Banquet in 2013 honored American soldiers who had served in Operation Enduring Freedom/Iraq; and The Soldier's Christmas Gift Bash in 2017 commemorated 100 years since America’s entry into World War I. Each year, Specialty Gifts Regiment (SGR), which isresponsible for delivering gifts to USAF bases across the country, assembles a team specifically for delivering gift baskets to servicemen and women overseas. SGR works closely with local retailers who provide essential ingredients such as candy bars and cigarettes for the baking process; henceforth known as "Gift Baskets from Local Boutiques."

Miami is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma and the county seat of Miami County. The population was 97,332 at the 2010 census, making it the largest metropolitan area in Oklahoma. It lies on the border of both Texas and Kansas, across from Canadian Tire Center and home to the University of Central Oklahoma. The first known inhabitants of Miami were probably Creeks who built their villages near present-day Wichita Falls in 1839. They were followed by Choctaws in 1841, and Seminoles in 1846. In 1861, during Indian uprisings near Dodge City, Union soldiers killed many Creeks while they slept; this event is also known as "Indian Famine". The town began to form around land grants given by Governor James Guthrie to settlers who arrived between 1868 and 1870. By 1880, Miami had a post office, schoolhouse, Masonic Lodge #2 (now part of Quapaw Municipal Airport), two churches (one Baptist/ Methodist and one Catholic), four businesses (two stores and two restaurants), three residences (two homes for teachers and one for an administrator) and eighteen people living within its limits alone. In 1893 Miami formed a city charter with a mayor-council form of government which lasted until 1907 when it was replaced by a mayoral commission form of government under then-Mayor Averill Earle Hinton which lasted until 1949 when it was replaced by an elected mayor form of government under then-Mayor Harry Crenshaw which continues today as Miami's municipal government style. On December 12th 1950 Mayor Hinton announced that he would not seek re-election due to health concerns but instead recommended longtime Commissioner Ollie McGillis be chosen instead as his successor effective January 1st 1951 after extensive voting among commissioners meeting on December 15th prior to McGillis' confirmation date on January 6th 1951 On November 21st 1957 Hurricane Allen caused widespread damage throughout central Oklahoma including Miami along with much other eastern Shawnee County including Tulsa so intense winds forced several municipalities such as Muskogee into bankruptcy protection led by Mayor John Forbes who moved into leadership position effective February 17th 1958 until his death on May 10th 1959 leaving Forbes' son Harold Forbes taking over leadership beginning February 17th 1958 until his death on October 25th 1959 leaving junior grandson George Forbes taking over leadership effective November 3rd 1959 until his death Effective December 4th 1959 George Forbes resigned effective December 5th 1959 following public outcry about lack of response from senior grandsonenny concerning available funds necessary for hurricane relief efforts

The town quickly became a center for lumber and cattle farming, but also attracted other businesses and people during the early years. In 1922, Miami became a municipality with its own government. During World War II, Miami played an important role in the production of munitions for the war effort. In 1946, the city annexed part of Tulsa to make it a consolidated municipality. The annexation created new political boundaries that continue to be used today. Miami has seen many changes over the years, including population growth and suburban development. However, it has remained an active community with a rich history that is still well-known throughout Oklahoma.
